Windowblinds & Firefox

Hi,

I checked "Allow WindowBlinds to skin Firefox (title bar mode needs to be enabled and restart)", but it seems that the option with Firefox 139 on the "More Tools" menu is nolonger available.

Is there a way now to skin Firefox?

However, that works with Librewolf.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Here what you need to do to get Firefox titlebar to be skin by Firefox. Click 3 line menu-> Click on More Tools-> Customize toolbar..-> Tick on titlebar.

Hi again,

I was mistaken, I might have started Librewolf instead (or it stopped working after a reboot, I'm not sure), because it does not work anymore.

I did that:

and that:

What did I forget?

I use this customized skin:

As a test try using skin that come with Windowblinds such as Acrylic 7, does it work? If not, while the Acrylic 7 still applied, reboot the system, does it work?

If it still don't work, perhaps look if you have any Firefox extension that might conflict with Windowblinds. Try running without any extension applied.

I tried with a blank profile using Acrylic after rebooting, same result.

I am on Firefox v142.0 (64-bit), perhaps try this version.

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Hi,

I did that on a virtual machine with everything new, and it worked.

Now, I have to try on the real one, and see if it also does.

I'll keep you posted, no need to reply to this post.

Thanks.

Hi again,

If I use Purge_WB on the real PC, will it erase all the customizations?

In particular, I have a lot of excluded apps, so it would be annoying to redo every one.

Hello,
Just to be sure, you should back up all your skin. You can back it up from this folder: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\WindowBlinds

Hi,

I tried to de-activate my license first in order to be able to activate it again, but I got this dialog:

As you can see, there is a Back button, but nothing to confirm. Hitting Enter does not work.

How do I accept here to deactivate?

I de-activated, ran the cleaner script as admin, installed, activated and rebooted.

I took all the steps that worked on my virtual machine, and it still does not work, Firefox titlebar is not skinned.

To Me, that would suggest there's something on your regular computer interfering. Do you have any other skinning/customizing apps on your machine?

Also, just to confirm, the issue only with Firefox. yes? Windows File explorer do get skin properly, yes? Perhaps, do Firefox reset might help.

To reset Firefox settings to default, go to the Help menu (the three horizontal lines icon), select "More troubleshooting information," and click the Refresh Firefox button on the Troubleshooting Information page. This action closes Firefox, removes extensions and customizations, restores all settings to their original state, and then reopens the browser.

Step-by-Step Guide to Resetting Firefox

  1. Open Firefox: and click the menu button (the three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
  2. Click Help: from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select More troubleshooting information: to open the Troubleshooting Information page.
  4. Click the Refresh Firefox button, located in the top-right corner of the Troubleshooting Information page.
  5. Confirm the reset: by clicking the Refresh Firefox button in the confirmation window that appears.
  6. Click Finish: after the process is complete, and Firefox will reopen with its default settings.

Try that and report back.

Yes, Firefox only.

Explorer and Librewolf skin properly.

Rather than using the FF troubleshooting mode, I used something more radical: create a new blank profile so that Firefox starts without any modification (save for allowing "Title Bar" of course), which allows to keep my usual settings with a different session.

That did not help.

I also just tested Chrome with  --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar, that did not work either. That's just to help diagnose the FF problem, I almost never use Chrome.

As of skinning mods, I use Start Menu X and explorer-patcher. I must say that combined with WindowBlinds, this removes much of the Win 11 nastiness!

That should not affect skinning Firefox.

Perhaps the Explorer patcher and Start menu x is causing issue with Windowblinds. These two application, were they running while testing in your VM?

Added Note: Chromium-Based browser has stop been skin-able by Windowblind for sometime ago, since it change something in its engine.

Here is an image showing the menu, explorer-patcher properties and a FF window on my VM:

WindowBlinds works better on this VM than on the real PC where not only Firefox is not skinned, but the explorer patcher properties window is completely black when WB is running:

VMs use a generic graphic driver compared to the more sophisticated NVDIA one on my PC. Maybe it's the cause?

Perhaps, but I don't have Nvidia card to verify this. However, I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience. Thank you.
