DeskScapes runs kinda wonky on Win 11

I own 3 pieces of Stardock software, but DeskScapes while cool, has some frustrating operational issues. 1) it can take a long time for it to fully load and get my wallpaper selections correct. 2) I have 3 different images set to three different monitors, but DS gets confused and thinks my monitor arrangement has changed (it has not) and will put the image on the wrong monitor. 3) many times while setting up animation to my image, if I click preview, nothing happens. There are a couple other things that are less annoying, like DS not really being as user friendly as it could be.

Are there any adjustments, tweaks etc. in DS and/or Win 11 I should do to help these problems?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please elaborate more.

  1. Long time to fully loaded? How long and how many wallpapers in each playlist? Also the playlist set to play randomly? Wallpaper static or animated?
  2. 3 different images set mean 3 different playlist?
  3. Elaborate on "Setting up animation to my image"?

Perhaps a video showing us the issue might help us understand it better. Also we need few more details on your system.

  1. Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe to get these numbers.
  2. Deskscape version installed.

Thank you,

Hi Graygamer25 and thank you for posting.

"I have 3 different images set to three different monitors, but DS gets confused and thinks my monitor arrangement has changed (it has not) and will put the image on the wrong monitor. "

This seems consistent/related to an issue we've previously noted on this thread:

As noted in the above thread, when cycling wallpapers on 3 monitors, we found an image cycling could show the wrong image (not a part of that cycle) for a few seconds.  Does that seem like what you've encountered?  If not, could you clarify more details of what is occurring with the wrong images?  I'll add your comments to the log.

Long time to fully loaded? Could be a couple minutes or more. It is trying to engage/load my images to the wallpaper on 3 monitors. Some load up, some do not. Sometimes it finally loads them, sometimes not.

How long and how many wallpapers in each playlist? Also the playlist set to play randomly? To be honest, I have no playlists. I haven't experimented with this yet.

Wallpaper static or animated? 2 static, one animated, using DS.

3 different images set mean 3 different playlist? 3 different images, no playlist

Elaborate on "Setting up animation to my image"? I will have to make a video for this. If I do a vid, how to upload to you?
Windows 11 full version and OS Build number.  Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4652)

Deskscape version installed  11.02

I set DS up to display the 3 different images on each monitor I chose. At first, it worked just fine, then one day it decides that my #1 is now #3, #2 is now #1 and #3 is now #2??

Perhaps you should try to set up the 3 playlists and apply different playlist for each monitor and see how it work for you.

Do you have tutorials for setting up playlists and other features? I haven't been able to find much of anything.

If I add animation through DS to one of my pictures, how do I save this and import it into a playlist?

You should be able to add background files (*.Dream, *.png, *.bmp, *.jpg, *.tiff, *.mp4, *.wmv, *.mpg, *.jpeg) to your playlist. Just go back to your playlist listing. Pick the playlist you wish to add to. Click it. than click the "Add Background" button. Refer to my short video below.

I just created three playlists and assigned them to the 3 monitors. However, once again, DS decides to assign monitor numbers all on its own. Before: #1 is now #3, #2 is now #1 and #3 is now #2?? Today my info panel/clock decides my monitor #1 is now #2, whereas yesterday it was correct.  Also today the animation I set up on Monitor #1 has decided to freeze the animation. I'm glad this software only cost me $3, because it is well intentioned, but very buggy.

I understand the images are appearing on different monitors, apparently somewhere the recognition of which-monitor-is-which, is changing.  To be thorough for the log: Would it be correct to say this happens after you sign-out and sign-in?  If so, does it happen every time? Or for example, is it only when reboot the PC?  Does it happen every time and only when you do either?  Does anything else you do seem to cause it?  Also, to test further, would you be able to check if any of these issues occur from default Windows behavior, without DeskScapes installed and running?

Thanks again,

Win11 Home v10.0.26100 Build 26100, Deskscapes v11.02, Fences v4.22.

I'm having a similar issue on a system with 3 monitors (1 static image, 2 dreams).

Occasionally on daily startup, Deskscapes shifts the applied images and takes my Fences with them...sort of.  Images on the outer two monitors are swapped but the fences are shifted left by 1 monitor.

Reapplying the fences from a backup doesn't resolve the problem.  In my experience lately, performing a system restart doesn't resolve it either but a full shutdown/reboot does.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. As a test, if you run your system without Fences turn on, do you see the issue such as "applied image" get shifted? Make sure to restart the system with Fences disabled before testing. Perhaps, its the Fences is causing issue since, I believe, Fences v4 no longer compatible with current Windows 11 version.

Why would Fences cause Deskscape images to switch monitors?

Why would Fences cause Deskscape images to switch monitors?

There is a functions in Deskscape that link it to Fences. Specifically where turn on Fences blur background and turn on this option in Deskscape.

After further experience with this problem, the image shift occurs only on a Win11 restart (even multiple times) and never on a shutdown/reboot.

If I disable Fences, will the settings remain so that I return to the same state after re-enabling it?  Any way to backup my Fences settings?

If you just disable Fences using this switch, should be the same location for Fences v4, the layout should still be there when you enable it again.

Just to be sure, you may use this guide to backup your layouts. https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416429609/Backup+of+Fences+Configuration+Settings
