Desktop X spyware????

Desktop X spyware????

Does it include spyware and adware.

After installing it and restarting my pc I had my cd-roms open and this ad popup explaining that if my drives opened that I should seriously get some spyware removal tools. Convieniently they were selling such a product. BTW it was right about the time I had clicked on to download more themes.

Ad-aware removed this stuff from my pc and it's never happened again. But I'm curious if I uninstall and reinstall Desktop X will it happen again.

I don't use OE for that very reason. I use Thunderbird. My understanding (limited, for sure) is that Thunderbird doesn't have complete virus/worm protection, but it's a whole lot better than OE. Am I deluding myself. I do use Ad-aware, Norton AV, ZoneAlarm and Spyware Blaster.

I think the problem with OE is that in its default config, it's not so "safe". I use it for one of my accounts, I turned off the preview pane and changed its setting to "restricted zone". Seems OK. I do like Thunderbird though.

dabe, perhaps. Fact is, if Thunderbird gets popular enough to attract the attention of enough hackers and security experts they will find ways to exploit it. Until then you're probably safe! )
