Now Announcing: Fences 6, Beta Available Now

Beta Available with Tabs, Icon Tint, and New Enterprise Functionality

Get into the Fences 6 Beta Now

Stardock released its first Fences® 6 beta today – a major update to its popular Windows desktop organization software with over 20 million downloads. Fences is the easiest way to organize your desktop workflow by neatly organizing apps, files, and icons on the desktop.

Fences 6 introduces tabs, a feature that allows you to place multiple fence groups together in a tabbed experience for a modern layout. And with the ability to dynamically add and remove tabs, Fences 6 continues to elevate the bar as the best desktop organizational tool for Windows.

Also new in Fences 6 is the ability to apply a color tint to all the icons on your desktop. This simple but innovative feature allows you to apply a single hue to all your desktop icons to create a distraction-free layout or to help any individual Fence stand out. And when combined with many of the quality-of-life updates including improved navigation for Folder Portals™, Fences 6 is another big step forward for functionality and personalization.

Fences is used by thousands of businesses every day, from healthcare to law offices and finance organizations. To help these businesses deploy organized dashboards of desktop icons, Fences 6 for Business adds additional tooling to create templated deployments with multiple configurations ready out of the box. And with Stardock also offering customized deployment configurations with each enterprise rollout, Fences 6 is the most configurable, deployable, and scalable version of Fences, ever.

"Fences 6 is our biggest leap forward for the productivity tool," said Brad Sams, General Manager of Stardock Software. "Fences is widely recognized as the best way to organize your desktop and with the new features in Fences 6, it is now the best tool for managing not only your desktop but every desktop within your organization.”

It's currently in the top portion of the manager interface.

Updated to Fences 6 Beta from latest Fences 5.
I cannot seem to get the tabs to activate, but I may be doing it wrong.

I thought I would Drag one fence onto another, and they would dock with Tabs.

This does not appear to be working.

Could we get a video sample?

Thanks,

Kent

First you have "Enable creating new tabs" in the Fences config on the "Tabs" tab.

Hi Kent,

We’ve had some users who have installed but have seen that even after reboot it’s still showing Version 5.

Have you rebooted? If so, does it say Version 6 in the About tab of the configuration dialog? If not, does it give any warning about a mismatch if file versions?

Thanks for the help

Hi,

Yes, I rebooted and I am running Fences 6.
I have discovered that Fences that have the View set to Roll-up Fence cannot be in a Tab group.

Once I turn off Roll-up Fence I can add to a Tab Group.

So, I guess that means Tab Groups cannot roll up???

Thanks for checking on me and the guidance.

Kent

I am able to add a tab to a roll-up Fence. Just drag the new Fence over the Tab Group header(s) and release the mouse button. You should then get a confirmation dialog to "Add to tab group."

Firstly, Fences 6 is a beta. SD is collecting problems to solve. Final conclusions re the software are unwarranted at this point.

Please post problems on sdrohan's beta feedback thread, here:
