Misc Notes on SOSE2

Some thoughts and confusions

All notes are based on playing the Advent.  I never play other races.

  1. I like to be able to turn of the nebula/galaxy background because I think it is distracting.  I could do that in version 1 of the game but not version 2

  2. I am having trouble selecting planets/asteroids/suns.  It seems I have to hit them quickly twice to center, and then select.  I dont like that.

  3. The outlines of the ships are not distinctive enough.  The seeker looks too much like the disciple looks too much like the missionary.  I cant tell which ship is which by just looking at it.  This was not a problem in v1.

  4. I am having big trouble finding relevant research and sometimes understanding what they do.  Also have trouble finding research even though I know what I am looking for.  The names are so weird that when you look for something you dont have a chance of finding it

  5. I need notification when ships come under attack.  Say I place ships at a star, the first notice I get is when a capital ship loses shields.

  6. I dont understand how exotics work.  Do I need to build an exotics factory?  This is a major limit on my ability to build capital ships.

  7. What happened to the “hanger” ship?  I need to provide fighters and bombers to my fleets in quantity.

  8. Problem 4 above could be solved with some sort of manual that lists such things as research and what they are for.

Hey, thanks for sharing the detailed feedback!

1) Sins 2 combines the nebulas and star background into a single skybox, so it's true, that it cannot be disabled in the same way.
Possible solution could be to use a minimod which would replace skyboxes without the nebulas.

Alternatively, you could go to extended settings via ctrl+shift+s. There you could search for "sky", and disable the rendering of skyboxes. This will turn of the nebulas, however this will not be same to Sins1, as there is no secondary layer of dark sky, but maybe you'd still prefer this solution

 

2) I am not sure about this issue. In my experience selecting planets is easy. Only possible interference is when ships are jumping, and you try to select planet with the selection box, but capture ships. Otherwise a simple click on the planet, or selection box work perfectly fine for me

 

3) Do you mean the outline, when zoomed out? So the icons of the ships? Or when zoomed in?

 

4) In my experience, the search function is quite helpful, but yes, it does require some game knowledge. Otherwise, for technologies you could take a crack at the game guides. 5) This one is a bit tricky, as your ships may get minor damage all over the place, from some raiding forces, bypasses, etc. But I will share your feedback with the team.

 

6) Yes, the main source of exotics are the exotic refineries (unlocked in tier 3 of civilian tree). But there are other ways on how to get exotics. You can capture derelicts, survey planets, or ask allies for their exotics ;)

 

7) The Carrier cruiser is still there. It's unlocked in tier 2 of hostility tree, and can house up to 3 squadrons per ship. Note - you need to have a Greater Factory, to be able to construct them, because cruisers are built in the same factory, as capital ships.

Thank you, this definitely helps.  Maybe for item 5 I need some sort of "sentry probe" whose job is to notify me when alien ships appear, even their equivalent of scouts.  I suspect that might be difficult to do as a Mod, but I dont actually know.
