Cannot pin groups to taskbar or Start Menu

I have created and saved a groupy of four Excel spreadsheets. When I try to pin this groupy to the taskbar, nothing happens.

I try in three different ways - in one of the grouped Excel spreadsheets (1) I click on 'Group, Pin group to taskbar', (2) I drag 'My Excel group' from my saved groups folder (C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Saved Groups) to the taskbar

and (3) I do the same but from the Groupy folder (C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Roaming\Groupy), dragging 'My Excel group.groupy' to the taskbar.

In each case, nothing seems to happen - no pin appears on the taskbar. If I close the Excel groupy, no Excel pin appears on the taskbar.

Pinning to the Start Menu (Start11), is similar - nothing appears on the Start Menu, although I can pin the basic Excel app OK.

This is a new PC I am currently setting up with Windows 11 Pro 24H2, with a brand new installation of Stardock apps, currently Groupy 2.2, Start11 2.5 and Fences 5.86 (Revision 8). It worked OK on my older Windows 10.

What am I missing and how do I get this to pin groupys on the taskbar?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Stephen

As is typical, the minute I posted this I thought of trying another way. I went to my Start Menu, to 'Saved Groups. Right-clicking the group there ('More, Pin to taskbar') pins it to the taskbar OK.

But why doesn't it work from the Groupy menu? Have I misconfigured it in some way?

Thanks,

Stephen

Is this significant? I cannot seem to add a new group I have created to the Start11 menu. I notice that under 'Group' it says 'Pin Group to Start', not 'Start11'. Selecting this seems to do nothing - nothing changes on the Start11 menu.

If I go to 'Manage Groups' and right-click the group, I get 'Pin to Start11' and this works. It appears on the Start11 menu in the 'Pinned' section.

However, I have to search for it, then click 'Pin to Start11 menu' again to pin it. Then I can right-click it and pin it to the taskbar. However it does not appear in the 'Saved Groups' on the Start11 menu.

It all seems a bit hit and miss rather than working smoothly as it should. Is there a conflict between Start11 and Groupy?

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks, Stephen

If you select pin to Start it will goes to Windows default Start panel, to have it also appear in Start11, you will need to turn this option on in Start11. Once that is turned on, you will need to sign out and sign in again to see the changes.

Thanks, but I already had this switched on. I generally switch off the PC at night (not hibernated) and start up in the morning, so it will have logged out and back in again.

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for posting.  We've reproduced and now have this logged for review.

Internal Ref: ODNT-9451

For now, you should be able to pin your saved groups to the Taskbar or the Start Menu from the Saved Group folder itself (which can be found from the Group's dropdown menu: Group -> Saved Groups -> Manage Saved Groups).

Thanks but this doesn't work for me - nothing appears on the Start11 menu or taskbar. What does work is going to the Start11 menu and searching for the group (it does not appear in 'Saved Groups' - how do I get it there?). I can then right-click the group, which appears in the search results, and I can correctly pin the group to both the taskbar and Start11 menu.

Basically the problem is to get the 'Pin to Start' and 'Pin to taskbar' items in the Groupy drop-down menu working with Start11. I understand you're working on resolving this. I have this workaround for the moment.

Thanks, Stephen

While not as ideal as pinning directly, for now what I mean is you should be able to first select to "Save Group" from that Group's Groupy Bar.  Once the Group is saved, then try selecting "Manage Saved Groups".   If the group is saved correctly, it should show up there and you should be able to open that folder path, and right click it there to pin.
