Autotargeting

Well, it's a tough topic I can imagine, but I would like to address the auto targeting thing.

A free tip for those don't know: if you select a group of your ships and let's say want to destroy those annoying kanraks or carriers giving trouble from far away, you can hold ALT and right click on the group of those in the UI (top right corner approximately). Your ships will attack that group one by one. And you save a thousand Shift+ clicks and a bunch of time.

The problem is: you are selecting your 50 missile frigates and they all start to shoot at the same target all together wasting 40 out of 50 missiles per shot. Which makes everything to last forever without mentioning that in the far away future with super computers and extremely advanced technology in play it is pretty sure they would deal with it in a different way.

So I would like to ask if there could be put In place some algorithm, so your group can attack several targets at once? I would probably make a calculus, if a target needs 10 missiles to go down - your 50 Kanraks would attack 5 ships simultaneously and so on.

Hoep it's not something impossible to ask

Many thanks in advance

Hello!

I'm personally not sure what it would take on the backend to accomplish this but Ill bring the request up in my next report to the team. What else do you believe could help streamline the current experience?

Another possible mitigation / solution to this type of overkill could be making the advent technology of missiles being able to retarget if their original target dies, available to the other factions.  Less math involved.  lol

Actually  you kinda sort of already have this feature in the game with hanger pet (fighters/bombers). You can select all of your bombers or fighters and then distribute targeting to multiple targets equally with a CTRL + Right Click which I've been using. It's been a very useful feature in this game, as 1300 bombers would be overkill on one target. I think I was the one that requested that feature :)

Maybe there's a way to use that feature already in the game, to apply to frigates, cruisers, capital ships. The game already allows for players to select their entire fleet, but can't select all enemy ships at once. Maybe that same feature could be applied to enemy ships as if you were selecting your own fleet and then CTRL + Right Click, which the game would arrange targeting all enemy ships at once?

give this to Vasari and there will be nothing else in the galaxy to stop them :D

@Gambit3689, thanks, indeed CTRL + right click is indeed what I needed. And it's great to have both options. ALT for focused fire and CtRL to attack entire group. I guess this feature is ok enough.

You can hold left shift and target all ships by right clicking on the ship type in the enemy fleet window on the right hand side of the screen, i think that your selected fleet will each target one of the ship type, unless i misunderstood the display, I had a long game yesterday evening.

I honestly feel the focus fire command should be the default command. The AI seems to focus fire their attacks, and I don't see any reason in a large battle to *not* focus fire, so why it's not the default is beyond me.

AI focus fires and if you dont, you lose.

With ships that like overkill and no retarget is available, you have the option to not focus.

say light frigates dont do damage without focus fire at all. Unless there is a cloud of them vs fewer targets.

There is also PD that can shoot all the missiles down, so it isnt quite universal to say where focus is better vs worse. Small engagements with low dps being spread out would be ok if AI did the same. Having to hold Alt to deal with most sinificant threats does add to more inputs, but at least you can alt attack and not manually shift. So less clicks still.
