start menu button is overy large

when i use an image that is larger than 48x48 main screen start button does not resize

basically, I was creating my own start menu icons in paint. The picture was very pixelated at default size (96 x 192 for three icons with spacing between them).

Then I noticed "Larger start buttons will be shrunk to fit on this version of Windows" in start11 settings and decided to upscale the image and let start11 shrink it down.

This really helps to reduce the pixelated look with how start11 shrinks the picture that cannot be done with just basic paint.

However, when I set the up-scaled version of the start buttons, something strange occurs.

The secondary screens all work as expected (icon resized and pixelation reduced) but the main screen shows the icon as full size buried behind the start menu.

Normal icon:

oversized icon:

I don't know how to get all three screen to have the same behavior and no clue as to why it is acting so strange. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Just as a test please download any of these start buttons graphics and see if you see similar issue with these start buttons: https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/start_menu_buttons/search/. If there is no issue with these start buttons, perhaps, you can use it as a template for your own design.

Thank you.

that is great to know! thanks for the suggestion. I will give it a try. I still hope this bug can be fixed since it is clearly abnormal behavior but if they have a tool that works around it, i guess there really isn't any need lol
