Hidden shortcuts

I have had Fences for some years now - and happy with it, as such. It is version 4.22 as far as I can tell. But again today I ran into a problem, and not first time: I create a shortcut for some file, and select to place it on my desktop. But - sometimes it is places BEHIND one of the existing fences, and I need to move them all around in order to find the missing shortcut. And sure enough - suddenly I find it when moving one on my fences that was simply covering my shortcut.

If this can be solved, then I happily will upgrade to the latest version. But can it? Is there a solution for this? Either that shortcuts simply are not placed behind a fence OR one solution could be that You could somehow click all fences away for a few seconds to see whats behind...

Perhaps there already is a solution that I have not found ? If not, then I would strongly suggest it included in a future update.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. There are two solution that you can try. Enable "Auto arrange icons" on your desktop context menu. Or, Create a Fences and set a Fences rule so all new icons that come to desktop will be automatically move to that Fence. Something like screenshot below.

Thank you.

I believe that "hidden icon prevention" was something added in Fences 5 fairly recently, around v5.50. Give the current version on the website a shot! Just be sure to preserve your settings on uninstallation of 4, and you'll have your settings for your trial of v5 to see if it resolves the issue for you. If not, you can revert back to v4. The new workaround detects any icons that Windows places behind a Fence group and moves them to an appropriate spot.

To be safe, you can take backup of your settings in Fences or export HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Fences before installing the update.

You can also try the workaround method basj suggested, which may resolve your issue without the need for any upgrades.
