IconPackager loses icons when I load my custom package

Hello,
I am trying to create a windows XP icon pack, as the existing icon packs appeared to be missing some icons. However, I am running into issues when I try to apply my new icon package.

When I install the package from zip, I see all icons appearing in the preview:

When i click 'Apply Icon Package', many of them magically disappear:

Here is the icon package: WindowsXP.ip

Here are the icons i originally used: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AszR5Na9n6lWqYstDitR0PxIyROfbg?e=0yLCU5

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Try look into this thread: https://forums.stardock.com/499209/. There is a good guide by AceMatrix on how to properly place the icons in the package.

Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I saw that thread already and followed spruceBoys advice of only using named icons (that is, icons from the second zip archive I shared).

Are you able to reproduce my behavior? This software is quite unintuitive and poorly documented, I could not find a proper user guide anywhere.

Yes, I can reproduce your issue, but I see the issue is with your specific ip package. I don't have issue when I load with other downloaded ip package. So, I do believe the issue is within your ip package itself. Try to follow AceMatrix advice in reply#11, rename the icons accordingly.. 01..02..03 etc.

Thank you,

OK I've tried two different things; neither survived clicking 'Apply Icon Package':

  1. I notice a lot of the missing icons appear in the 'Backups' folder. I tried copying them from the 'Backups' folder out to the main directory where the icon package lives (specifically, from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\IconPackager\WindowsXP\Backup to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\IconPackager\WindowsXP)
  2. I tried using IconPackager to manually add icons from my 'golden' package (for example C:\Users\Paul\Desktop\xp_icons\xp_icons\folder_documents.ico)

I notice after clicking 'Apply Icon Package', some of the icons in the installed icon package (that is, C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\IconPackager\WindowsXP) would simply vanish. It seems to be a slightly different set each time.

Do you have a tool for inspecting what the .iconpackage database is doing? I wonder if there is a corruption there. I have already spent many hours trying to make this work and I am coming to the conclusion that nobody actually uses IconPackager to build icon packages; there must be a text-based tool that can work.

I don't think there is a tool to such thing. If there is something out there it would have been mentioned somewhere in the forum. I believe you will have two choices, either rebuild your icon package with the knowledge you have learn from that other thread or wait for someone else who have better knowledge on building icon package to come in and give some tips.

I think i have a solution.

There is something fishy about the way that iconpackager deals with upscaling icons; I was able to make my problems go away by disabling the icon up-scaling behaviour as shown:

Now my icon set survives reload!
