To be blunt about it, copyright exists to protect other peoples work from people like you.

Plain and simple. If someone downloads your work and uses it you would be happy. Would you be just as happy if they took that same work, put their name on it and uploaded it here claiming it was their own and giving you no credit?

Now I remember why I come here. The stand up comedians are so much funnier than the ones on tv.

What idiots don't understand is that the same laws that prevent us from stealing commercial art *also* keep commercial entities from stealing our art.

If MS took a wallpaper from here and made it the background for a freeware program, people would be ranting to the heavens.... but some ass takes an XBox game wallpaper and cuts it up into a theme or logon and it is 'manifest destiny'.

You can't have it both ways. When you degrade these rights you degrade your own, and you have next to no legal recourse when someone like Microsoft adopts your own attitude. We have several skinners here in the commercial arena now. The time has come to grow up and realize that people just like us make commercial art and we should not co-opt their right to choose how said art is used and distributed.

When we do, we just add precedents to the list for when they want ours.

P.S. Not that people like Natron 1986 will ever worry about their own rights, since they will be too busy stealing everyone else's work to ever learn to make their own.

Let's see if we can put this in a way that you'll understand...

its like you were playin with your fruity loops, you know that you got off KaZaA and you laid down this really cool track. The perfect beat, you know? dum shh shh dum di di di boom shhhh boom waaahhh ahhh... anyway, the whole thing was just like awesome. So you took it and burned it on a CD with that cracked copy of Nero, and like gave it to your bud cuz he knows these guys that hang out with Creed, ya know? And then last week you hear this song and it was UR SONG, man... and the band was like one you really hate you know? And now these suits are saying it aint ur song, and they are gonna make all this cash, and like, it's UR SONG!! You know?

HEY!! That's MY song, but it's missing two didis and a wopwop! just cause you cut out two didis and a wopwop doesn't mean it's YOUR song!.....(well not really but it fit the mood of the thread...)
hmmmm.... has the familiar ring of "that's not the same wallpaper! the lines on that one go right! mine go left!"....
ripping is ripping,if someone created an original piece of work and someone else decides to make minor alterations and claim it as theirs, it's still stealing.

copyright is our legal defense against those who try to take what is ours. it's our proof we did it first.

I think i'll take his work and put my name to it and call it all "MyOwnWork"

I could be famous
