Is 24h2 worth it? Depends on how you want to use your Windows.

The worst part of this upgrade is that it will create chaos to a lot of 3rd party modification tools as Microsoft clamps down on using Windows 10 parts. On the forum we are seeing a lot of issues right now because of this. Therefore, 24h2 is a step backwards when it comes to customization's and modifications.

For people willing to say good bye to windows 10 and windows 10 parts, 24h2 is in fact worth it. However, the changes for the better are very subtle and a lot of people might miss them entirely. There are a lot of small things like labels in the context menu, improved settings (still migrating the control panel to the settings menu decades later), built in compression, wifi 7, better laptop battery power options, ect.

A wise decision, I believe. Unless you're doing a lot with AI and planning to do more, absolutely no need to rush.

MS has said that if your computer doesn't satisfy their criteria for W11 compatibility, go out and buy a new one. Not a thought about the e-waste, and piles of perfectly good computers, nevermind affordability.

W10? One year then an expensive contract or more e-waste.. or 0Patch. Fifty million people...nevermind all those on 7, 8, 8.1 and XP!

Microsoft certainly does want people to throw away perfectly good tech a lot sooner then needed. I don't meet the system requirements to run copilot plus and would have to upgrade to do so. Fortunately for me, the AI features aren't enough for me to want to buy a new computer. It is Microsoft's loss; they will have to wait until my computer is actually old before I try their AI features.

24h2 reminds me a little of Windows 8. It has a gimmick (the AI features) that isn't that great initially, but still some of the under the hood improvements makes it worth upgrading.

It seems like every day, I read an article about issues with 24H2. I just don't think it's ready for prime time yet. I used to always be an early adopter of new Windows OS versions, but lately that seems like a bad idea. Why can't Microsoft get it right? I know there are so many different configurations of computers out there, and that contributes to the problem. It's almost impossible for them (MS) to test everything prior to launch of a new OS, or update for that matter. They have to release to the public to find all the issues. I'm just not ready to be a beta tester these days.

I'll be sticking to 23H2 for now until all these bugs get fixed.

One more year of support from Microsoft until 10/2025. It's interesting that MS is dropping support for 23H2 in 11/2025.

You can refuse update only so long. Also, any security updates won't occur until you remove the hold on 24H2, thus you will be increasingly vulnerable.

I pretty much beta test everything. It is never a big deal to me to just roll back updates that are broken and and I have done so several times. Luckily I have not had to with 24h2.

Being someone that beta tests a lot I can tell you from experience that the only issues that will for sure be resolved on launch are my own along with other beta testers that report issues. Sometimes they will be your issues as well but not always. Additionally, I am always beta testing Stardock software as well and no matter how thorough I am with looking for issues or bugs I am constantly surprised at the unforseen issues that arise after launch. This is because of the sample size of hardware that is available. Sometimes it just takes that larger sample size to figure out an issue.

I don't think you should be afraid to test because nothing gets fixed until it is found out anyways.
