Easier update process please please please...

Please can we have a better update process

We get a "new update available" pop-up, well, great, exciting even, sometimes. Then "Do you want to download it", then "Accept the terms", then "Confirm", then "Are you sure", then "Yay, finished the download", then "Please reboot now"...

(Might have exaggerated some of those steps, but you get the idea. It's all a bit annoying)

Can we have the "New update available", one confirm, and that's it, all done..? I never reboot when it says and it seems to be fine, so I don't totally believe that it's needed at all, and certainly should not be. It's not rocket science but it is all very lazy programming.

Plus it's really annoying, which is particularly annoying because the only purpose of Start8,9,10 and 11 is to make Windows less annoying..!

So, come in Startdock, pleeeeeeze can sort this one out...?

For Start10/11 and all previous version to work properly, it need the system to reboot every time an update is done. This is due to StartXX work with Windows system. So to replaced those files with those new files properly, the system need to shutdown to allow those files be remove and replace with new ones. So it can not be help.

Its nothing about "Lazy programming" at all.

Thank you,

Any app that alters running Windows system files, requires a restart in order to make the changes.

It should be noted that we do not alter system files themselves.

But the reboot is needed because we load as part of explorer and Windows has an annoying habit of having the files locked in unpredictable processes and so cannot be replaced until reboot.

So if it asks for a reboot it really does want one and it will not have replaced the software entirely until you do.

Thanks for your reply...

I was about to say that explorer can be restarted without a reboot, cos windows does that for you every once in a while. The reboot was only a part of my grumble however, and the other part you can definitely fix..! The process I would like is:

"There's an update that I already downloaded for you - install me Yes or No".

Then, (after some background whirring...), and if you really have to: "Reboot now to finish update Yes or No".

The other bits in between: "Download me", "Do you really want to install me", "Please re-accept the terms you already accepted several times before", "What's your mother's middle name". etc etc... those bits are still quite annoying...
