I found that program last night, but couldn't get it to make any noise on my machine.......... must try again.

Try sticking your hand under your armpit and flap your arm up and down...

to add to this does any body know where to get a talking sound pack? i have a sound pac that has sounds extracted from games. for example when i open a prog it says accessing, when i close it it says task complete,i was wondering if there were other sound packs out there ....

thast s cool site it had quite a few cool sounds...basically a sound pack is a zip file of sounds that u can use instead of the default computer sounds. usually they are named to match the sound's they replace...

Downloaded Sound Association but can't get the sounds to work. I have tried running it in the various compatibility modes but still nothing. Any suggestions?

Now I'm no wiz at this, but doesn't a program have to have the option to use sounds when it opens? I have some things such as winpatrol that allowed me to use a sound when it opened or detected something, and spybot allowed me to use a sound when it finished doing it's scan. And generally I look for such things when I use other programs but not all of them have that option, it would be nice if they did, but I don't know of any other way to apply a sound to a program without going into the programs code itself and adding that option. If anyone knows how to do that I'd love to know how.

If a proggie has sounds it will install them and they will show up in 'Audio' option in Control Panel. Short of that, forget it.

naaa yrag..many progs have adjustable sounds u can change.. many prog authors havent added the registry changes & etc needed for them to be added to the sounds section in controll panel. i can name 2 rite off hand, adaware and spybot.

a utility like that would be mucho useful!

yes i read it whats your point ? theres many programs that have sounds that can be changed ... that won't be found in the sounds section of the controll panell.

Yes there are proggies that do that (CursorXP being one) and they amend the Registry to do it. My only point is that short of hacking the registry, if a proggie doesn't come with sound that does that, then a person would have to hack the Registry themselves. It is simply something I don't recommend to anyone.

ahh yes i agree if it isnt an option in the prog and theres no setting in the windows sounds section .. its a lost cause ...

All's well that ends well .....maybe we should write a proggie for that....sure seems to be a demand for it

now thats a stardock prog that would be a hit ......man i hate not having sounds for certain progs and events ...my pc talks to me as it is. i have a sound programed for every event my pc has available. it says "accessing" when i open a prog or file, is funny when peeps come over and my pc starts talking ...

yrag thats what the app does, adds progs to the list under the sound schemes. I did get it to work but my stupid move was to assign a sound to IE opening and closing...

Now it doesn't work and neither does my WinCBrowser on my laptop anymore

I can not remember the name of the program but there was another one that worked on win2k. I'll have to look and see if I can find it "Sounder?" or some such...

Here are instructions to edit your registry to add sound events. I'm don't like messing with my reg so I'll wait for someone to make a utility for XP.

I have looked all over for a program that would add sounds to Windows. I have found a few for 95-98 but none for 2000. Even the program mentioned above says for 95-98 only. I found a great program that will randomize windows sound so they do not get monotonous.

Does Sound Association really work on XP?

Ok, I missed the second page. So it does not work on XP or 2K. That figures.I have hacked the registry and still could not add sounds to programs. I could put them in and they would show up in windows sound schemes but stil not play. In fact the regular open and close for Sound Recorder does not work. It must not currently be posible or someone would have done it by now. there are companies that specialized in sound modification that just could not do it for 2000 and XP.

Maybe with Longhorn.

I have so far managed to get the Mouse Sounds and the Keyboard sounds to work as they should, have downloaded the Sound Associatioms, but have not set it up yet.

So far they work on Windows XP, I will let you know about Sound Association
