no limit on capitalships

As an old Sins 1 veteran, I really like how the new capital ships work, especially when they take heavy damage. However, no limit on the number of capital ships feels way too strong. Why would someone build normal ships when they can have 40 capital ships?

Is there a chance to change the look of the capital ships when you equip them with different items? Like with the starbases or the titans? I almost fell off my chair when I noticed how the look changes with certain upgrades.

Greetings

They are pretty strong. The devs have looked at this before and made them more expensive to build but if they go to high then its like why bother to make them. A hard cap on these ships might not be a bad idea, just my opinion. 1v1 pvp its a lot different but vs the AI its to go to plan basically. They can throw anything they want at me but particularly as the Vasari, I crush the AI at any numbers/difficulty/map size on caps alone.

Hey, different ships have different roles. A full capship fleet, will level up slower and cost more.

In super late game, maybe you will be getting more of a capship focused fleet, but before that, going capships only, will likely lead to your demise. Especially if you get hardcountered by frigates with high pierce

Thanks for the answers.

Yes that's true. At least if you're playing against the AI on "unfair" difficulty or higher, or against another human player. However, if you're playing Tec Loyalist, it's not that hard to play with only capital ships, since your garrison will build your normal ships. But yes, I'm talking about the late game, where money is no object and you can build capital ships in masses. In sins 1, I really loved that my capital ships are special and I have to choose wisely to make them effective. But that feeling isn't there anymore when you can just build a fleet of them that blasts away everything that stands in its way. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a professional who tries to win the game in the first half hour by building a massive number of ships and then trying to overrun the opponent. That was never my intention to play this game. The reason why I play this game is to reach the absolute endgame, where everything is built, everything is explored and just massive fleets collide.

So assuming casual gameplay style, a dedicated fleet of javelis cruisers (or other high pierce ships) would counter a mono capital ship fleet. The philosophy of many changes in Sins 2, is to remove hard caps from the player, and make the game flow in such a way, which will make you want to build more than just 1 type of ship.

So instead of just prohibiting you from building multiple capships, this is shifted to gameplay, where it allows you to build unlimited capships, but you do not really want it. And thus the felling of several capships which matter is only enhanced.

This is also different for titans, which are still limited to 1 per player. As those are pinnacle of your fleet, and are way more unique.

Ok so in sins 1 i experimented for hours whether i should build 4 marzas with 3 dunovs or 3 marzas with 4 dunovs or 4 dunovs, 3 marzas and 2 kols and so on because of the hard cap and that was the attraction to find out the perfect combination. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks a hard cap is better for capital ships, but I can understand your thoughts behind your philosophy. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next upgrade. I read in your dev log that there will soon be visible damage on large units. Can't wait to see how my capitalships are blown apart.

The problem with building a "cap only" fleet is that, other than being expensive, it takes quite a few cap ships before you reach critical mass. Even a fleet of 5 cap ships can be overwhelmed by a moderate sized fleet. It really takes about 7 or 8 caps to be strong enough to fight large fleets.

As for pvp battles, if you allow your opponent enough time to build a fleet of cap ships then you deserve to have to deal with it.

Caps are stronger then ever actually compared to sins 1 with being able to buy them limited use items, like haul repair. Sins2 Have not had an update in AGES :(  so assuming nothing have changed in the AI, I can say I still can take any race, go solo 1v3v3v3 in impossible settings and win just fine only building caps. Building choke points for defense's is of course important while utilizing when and where to strike. But for the three races, the Vasari is the best at getting them out early.
