Automatic window grouping

How to disable this feature

Hi all,

I'm frustrated that all new windows are grouped into a single group set.  I have multiple sets...one for excel, one for powerpoint, etc.  I like to group manually, one group may be a working group, while the other is a reference group for the same app (excel for example).

But now on my Win11 machine, every time I open any app, it automatically groups it in a random group.  How can I disable this?

Thanks in advance,

Carlos

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know few more details.

  1. Windows full version and build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Groupy version number.

Thank you.

Thank you for the information. You mentioned you have multiple group sets. Please elaborate these group. How were they setup? Are they Grouping Rules?

Also, post how your Group settings-> Manual Grouping by drag and drop.

The only rule I have is to allow like apps to link together.  So manually I can only link Excel sheets or PowerPoint sheets etc, but does not allow me to mix groups between say excel and PowerPoint.

The issue is that when I open any app (including Excel and PowerPoint) it all goes to this mixed group.  If I click on a link, instead of opening it in my Chrome browser as a new tab, it opens a new home tab in this mixed group.

As for the groups, I like to set up a reference group, typically in one monitor, and working group on another monitor, so as I progress through the project, I can switch the grouped tabs in each group.

Hope this makes sense.

Thx,

C.

Thanks...

I tried that, but it still groups app automatically.  I just opened the group app hoping to open as a standalone, but again it grouped to that mixed group.

Is there a way to reset the app?

There is no one button reset all setting. What you can do is do "delete" each of the custom rule if you have any, "Remove from list" those Block/allow applications and Delete off those listed application in "Automatic windows grouping".

If I were to remove the app, and reinstall...is my profile saved on your server, so it would automatically reconfigure to my current settings?  I ask because this just started happening today.  I  may have messed something up, and want to go back to what it was just a couple of days ago.

Thx,

C

I don't think Groupy have a feature where your setting is saved in Stardock server. It is saved in your local system. What you can do is doing the purge and reinstall, as mention here: https://forums.stardock.com/488142/groupy-support-faq#reinstalling
