Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Nothing has changed, desktop icons do not get any more space when we make them bigger.

Peek doesn't work. It just turns the background dark gray. The icons are still behind the open windows in Windows 11 Pro 24H2

Yes I know I am using Release Preview 24H2, but best to get it out there

Fence taskbar icon or win space (peek)

  • Shows behind current windows
  • Desktop fill color turns black
  • Clicking an icon does nothing all fences vanish

for all intents and purposes it no longer works to bring any icons to the front or to be useful.

Other aspects work the same as before just Peek and possibly bottom right of taskbar issue seems standard windows but with multiple monitors it can be hard to hit the spot.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But those features is not under Fences. You will need to edit registry to change those or use 3rd party application such as WinTools to adjust those padding. https://www.wintools.info/index.php/desktop-icon-spacing. And for the hide the icons text, this is not possible.

Thank you.

Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Build 22631.3810

Fence 5.54
Oke, I've been here before and tried to explain what happens:
I arrange all fences and all icons inside the fences. In previous versions (before the new engine) the icons where always on the same place.
Now, when I use (an old) game that works in a lower resolution (800x600 instead of my normal 1920x1080) and after ending the game, the fences are still inplace, BUT most of the icons changed places inside the fences.
And that is worrying me. Some fences contain more than 20 icons and every time looking for where is that icon to start a program...
I really like the new color features etc., but I do not understand this behaviour.
Oke, I have made a snapshot and I did put that back, and then everything is in the right order again, but that should not be neccessary to do that every time.
BTW, the same occurs after a reboot or restart of Windows.

Isn't there anything you guys can fix, I'm not he only one having this problem.

It's important to know that you have this set:

And what sorting you have for any given Fence if any:

Thanks!

I now see the problem: in the 'Sort by' you've set 'By name' and than is visible 'Maintain sorting' in the menu. But I have 'sorted' my own order, and I need to keep it that way. No ordering alphabetioc, date, size etc. Just how I placed them. But in the case of 'None' there is no option 'Maintain sorting' or maybe 'Maintain placement'. Maybe that is the whole problem with a lot of people?

The back-up settings are exactly what you showed. Works fine.

Maybe a second thing: I use one or two screens, depending on the needs at that moment. The Fences are alway on the main screen, never on a extra monitor. Question: what happens when I restore a back-up of two screens (second screen no Fences) while using only one screen? That will work?

As always, thanks in advance.

Do we have a Date for a version that works properly on 24H2

With Show Fences Button, even if it is behind a window, if you can see it you CAN right click it then open on the rightclick menu.

There are soooo many issues with 24H2.. Happy to test anything you have tried

Hello,
Stardock is currently offering a 25% discount.
Why isn't there a 25% discount on the lifetime version of Fences 5 for 5 users?

Why is there no list option in view mode?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. The list view option only available for Portal Fences. Normal Fences don't have list view option. It just like your desktop icons.

Thank you.
