Start11 - icons after application updates

Applocation update

Hallo

After some application updates (aka Visual Studio 2022), it is removed from its group and inserted to (random) group. Other settings, aka pined documents are preserved.

Could the application remember the inclusion?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I believe, it depends on how you pinned the application to the Start panel. If the updates application change location or change its name that will make your pinned shortcut lost its link. But, I am not sure how it moved/inserted into another group. Unless you pinned a Stardock Fences group.

It best if you could post a video showing us the issue as its happening.

Thank you.

I am not sure I am seeing what you see but I don't see any random tiles relocation, these was your before and after sshot from your video.

I don't see the random location you mentioned and from your video it did not show your top row area, where the group show each group name like shown on your before update. So I can really see if that area was move around.

Thank you,

Icon Visual Studio, whitch is updated, is moved from its original group on top called "Vyvoj" to group "Spojeni" on right down location. It may be that the "Spojeni" group is the last to be created.

As a test, I updated my Visual Studios 2022 to the latest version, but I can not reproduce the issue you're having. Need to know more information on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Also need to know its full version and build number. Use Winver.exe to get it.
  2. Start11 version number.
  3. Interested to know how you pinned the VS 2022 to your Start11 start panel.

Thank you,

Version: Windows 11 23H2 22631.3737

Start 11: 2.08

In first after install VS2022 I click to all programs in start11 and pin to existing group.

What other apps, if any, are you seeing this with or is it only VS?

Other it's seems OK. Only VS has this problem.

What immediately comes to mind is that your shortcut is likely getting renamed or otherwise edited.

it is possible, but the classic start menu from Windows does not do it. I bought Start11 in order to be spared the terrible simplification of the Windows start menu in Windows 11. But if I have to edit the menu every month and look for where the carcass has gone again, I won't enjoy it.

As a test, try locking your Start11 menu and see if it stays put after an update.

When Start11 is locked, is the same. Icon Visual studio 2022 is located on last group iknstead of its original position.

Are you installing this with an installer from GitHub or do you have the Microsoft Store app installed?

There seems to be something specific to that Visual Studio app that is causing Start11 to move it to the last group. I don't have it installed, so I can't test it. If there is only an update once a month, it seems fairly trivial to move it back to the group where you want it. ;)

I would agree with this but we, who use VS every day, cannot reproduce it.

For the OP, if you back up \ reset your S11 settings

And ONLY change what is absolutely necessary to test again, can you still reproduce it?
