Two ship bugs

missing lasers and ship capture

I don't know if this has been reported yet, but frequently my fleets appear to lose the ability to launch a beam volley - the button just disappears - however if I hover the mouse over where it should be the pop-up still appears.

I also have noticed that the 100% ship capture from the Buopoth is not actually 100%.  My current game it is 0%.  It often is 0% too when fighting enemy flag ships.

Hello,

May I ask if this occurs after using missile volley by chance? Also do you happen to have a save file where we can replicate this issue via dropbox or drive link?

I've never noticed the moment it disappeared.  I can certainly start a fresh game and get aa save file for you.  I figured it might be common enough I should ask first.

The issue where the beam and missile volley icons are not visible, but are functionally there, just happened to me.

Here is a save file that should show this:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/btyfhjbgaljhelwi5ez1k/Missing-Icons-Under-2.5.580372.GC4Sav?rlkey=fdt2lerkr4jyddo3bevn8in0e&st=pj5c1kzp&dl=0

To see the issue:

  1. Load the save file
  2. Click on any of my fleets and you should see that the volley icons are missing as shown  in the first screen snapshot below
  3. Hover your mouse over the blank space where the icons should be and you should see the hover text for the selected volley type as shown in the second and third screen snapshots below
  4. If you selected the fleet shown in the screen snapshots below, you can click where the volley icon you want to use should be then click on the enemy ship located diagonally down and to the left.  The volley works.

I also have a weird one where the Precursor beam weapons disappear from the shipbuilder and all the ships I've built with them also disappear. Unfortunately, I've never noticed until I'm going to build a new ship design, but I'll try to keep a lookout.

  • I always figured that was just because there are a finite number of precursor beams my science vessels have found. I never noticed any of the ships I had already built disappearing tho.

I am on my second playthough where ship capture is 0%.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game.  Ship capture is pooched.

I also notice that empires no longer surrender....

The ship capture is a known bug they are working to fix.

In game settings at the bottom right there is a button labeled "advanced settings" check to see if the "Disable AI surrendering" button is selected.

Some times and it has happened to me the game resets the defaults after an upgrade/patch, if you have used this screen you might also have inadvertently selected it, also has happened to me in the past.

As far as I know this is intentional. Those weapons are limited use. Pick where you use them carefully. You can stick as many of them as you want on a single ship. They are crazy OP. I normally just try to stick as many of them as possible onto the largest hull I can. Support ships with bubble shields and fleet shields can help make up for the lower defenses.

I checked and surrender is enabled - it just is no longer happening…

I've discovered that it isn't the number of weapons that is limited, it's that you only have one turn to outfit and queue them up. You can build as many ships as you want as long as you put them in the shipyard queues. After that turn you lose the opportunity. In my last game I got the precursor beam weapon just the turn before I researched frigates. I was able to make really long queues of fighters, but the next turn I had lost the ability to put them on the frigates I now had access to. However, my fighters were still in the queues I had made, but I wasn't able to add any more to the queues.

Hello, I wanted to circle back on this, was this issue resolved with the latest update?

If you are taking about the issue with the limitless Promethion weapons, I'll let you know. I have a new game currently in progress.

update:  Today I had my first opponent surrender.  I literally had to pound the living crap out of him but he finally surrendered to a neighboring race - who promptly declared war on me.  It seems to me that surrender should be occurring a bit sooner.

I haven't yet checked if ship capture is working.   Too frustrating to get to that point in the game and find it isn't.

The issue with beam volley is not only still there, but is worse. The functionality itself is gone. Is this considered a bug or an unmentioned property of the laser matrix versus the helios rockets?

Not all types of missiles and beam module have the volley ability; only certain ones do.

Having said that, there's a mod that's available that make all the missiles and beam module have access to the volley ability. If that's something that you'd like to use on your next game, head over to https://www.galciv4.com/mods/manager and look for BugFix_Illauna-VolleyFix in Up Bundle of Mods.

Then my issue is with the "unmentioned" part. Surely a sentence like "Capable of volley fire." in the component description would have not overburdened the game.
