ObjectDock 3

Got the email about Objectdock 3. Immediately ordered, upgrade from owning it YEARS ago!! I've been using Winstep Nexus for a while now, but I like Stardock as a company and I like their licensing policy and online control of licenses and installs, so wanted to support them.

One issue I have. How to add a program shortcut to a dock. I am on Windows 11 with Start 11 v2. I go to Start, search the program, right click, create shortcut. Says it can't create it here so do I want it on the desktop. Yes. Drag that desktop icon to the dock, works, delete the desktop icon, the one in the dock turns to a question mark and doesn't work, so it's really a shortcut to the shortcut? I can't drag a program from the Start 11 menu to a dock, simply doesn't work, I haven't tried to drag one from the Windows Start menu to the dock. It doesn't always do this for every program, some work fine doing it this way. How do I get a program icon on the dock without searching all over for the exe and creating a shortcut directly on the dock, that's a PITA here in the 2020's? I sort of suspect this is a Windows Store app thing. One thing that does this every time is File Explorer. Another is Realtek Audio Console. Both of these seem to be Windows Store apps, or Universal Apps in the modern vernacular.

Any ideas? I've gone back to Nexus because of this!!!

Try this, turn on "Show running application" under OD3 (Right click on empty area on normal dock bar->Setting->View-> click to enable "Show application"). Open up the application you wish to pin to the dock, the program should appear on the dock->right click on it->pin this program to dock.

Make sure the "Advanced Tweak" shown below is checked. The procedure for adding a shortcut to the Dock you described in your post works for me.

The tip to open the app and pin the running program works. Thanks for that. Like me mom always used to say, it's always intuitive if you know how to do it!

My Advanced Tweak looks just like yours. the default, I guess. Try adding a Store app, or try File Explorer. Without the tip in the first reply, to open the app with Show Applications checked, then right clicking and adding to the dock, mine would go away if dragging a desktop shortcut to the dock.  Not always, but seemingly with Universal, or Store, apps.

Yes, MS Store apps can be quite an issue with almost all 3rd party software that locate it by the directory listing. The name of the directory location changes with each update to the app.

Glad you found a workaround.

I have been just right clicking the doc and selecting Settings>Add>Shortcut. In the dialog that appears (shown Below), I just give it a name, click the browse button and navigate to the app, document, or folder, and then Change Icon button to select a custom icon.

Ich Liebe ObjectDock

Hab jetzt auch die v3 Gekauft

https://ibb.co/kqFkDCn

So 2.20 ran great on Win 11 Canary until now 24H2 26100.1.

Wonder what's new????

Wished for something new 10 years after 2.20.

Modern design of the software and modernized the settings page.

Looks like they just changed the number from 2.20 to 3.0.01 plus a few internal adjustments due to Windows 10-11. 😁😂

Hope there is still something to come. 🤗🤗

But StarDock as a company top keep it up.

PS:

I'm already hoping for Start12

Bug? If you remove folders from the desktop

to the ObjectDock, the folder remains on the desktop if you delete it, it is also gone in the Doc. No matter if it is a real folder or a linked folder.

Flyout gone >:(

Icons are gone in "Customize this icon..." dialog box (ObjectDockUI.exe) >:(
Need to find an icon via "Browse for an icon..."

Fortunately Standalone Stack still works, except it cannot handle files in the "C:\Program Files" folder directly - a Symbolic Link to this folder is required for working properly.
A similar stack option should have been included in ObjectDock 3.

No

If I have an icon on the desktop, I drag it to the dock and delete the icon from the desktop, the icon is then in the dock with a ?

And the application no longer starts.

This was not the case with od 2.20. So bug

Not the case in Winstep Nexus either, including the free version. Create shortcut on Desktop, drag it to the dock, remove the desktop icon, dock icon still works. So it IS possible!!

so it's possible to have them in good resolution (1080p even if I don't say no to ultrahd for my 2160p screen),

without the stardock tools being integrated into these images,

since I have the said software :D

I believe, those were from BradSams: https://www.wincustomize.com/users/5267400/BradSams. But, I can not be sure. You can PM him and ask.

There is no significant change from the earlier versions that improves the utility of ObjectDock

Appreciable, the effort and talent of whoever wrote 'what is new' in actually coming with so many words!

ObjectDock is a wonderful piece of productivity software - would be good if StarDock did not let it die while chasing games which are the opposite of productivity software.

Please provide at least one good functionality / UI improvement with a new rev - for example, 'flyoutwheel' can be an option of a wheel or stack (another sidebar).

Thanks for considering.
