Groupy 2.15 Release Feedback Thread

With the Groupy 2.15 release, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.

Obtaining the product

Object Desktop members can get the release from within Object Desktop Manager

Individual purchases (as well as Object Desktop Members) can also be obtained from your account page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

For guest check-out purchase (no account), from this link: http://www.stardock.com/support/productkeyretrieval

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Groupy 2 a better product.

I use "RamMichael 7+ TaskBar Tweaker"

Quoting FamShoppa, reply 50

which I do manually (Directory Opus)

While Adam worked to showcase some possible Groupy issues (and he will log them), these apps will not be part of any continued testing I am afraid.

Groupy (any app from any developer) needs to work on current versions of Windows running the most common apps and settings.  Both of the ones you have noted are not common and also directly affect core components of Windows (Windows Explorer \ Windows Taskbar).

That said, your feedback led to this examination and we thank you for that.  If you would like to add anything else, please be sure to have produced results from a Windows Sandbox or a PC that does not include the aforementioned apps.

Again, thanks for the feedback, FamShoppa.

Aye, and as Sean said I've logged my findings internally.

Internal ref: ODNT-8242

I'm happy to add to this if an issue is related, and will log a new one if a unique issue is found. (However, if it's not Groupy 2.15 update specific, it's generally advised to create a new thread).

Generally speaking, the Windows Sandbox environment that Sean mentioned is a great tool for isolating variables when you think you've found a bug, I highly recommend it.

Thanks again for your feedback.

I think you guys have noted the issue Adam pointed out in the video (flashing or not appearing window). Hopefully if that gets solved then my problem will likely disappear.

But just a minor quibble...isn't Taskbar Tweaker popular and considered "common"? It's free and so many people use it.

I just feel like Taskbar Tweaker and Groupy compliment each other so well.

With Taskbar Tweaker, it lets you manually re-order items in your taskbar. And with Groupy, you can group those taskbar items in the way you want.

But if you guys know any other StarDock or similar app that lets you re-order taskbar items...please let me know and I can switch.

Thanks for mentioning that TaskBar Tweaker - installed it and now I have no idea how I went so long without it. This is fantastic!

Its complete lack of support (and we know why) for Windows 11 would be for starts.

Also, anything not named Microsoft that messes with its core components (Windows Explorer and the TB would qualify) has to be eliminated for testing.  I trust the logic and reason for that position is clear from your experience here - that it can take dozens of hours, from multiple individuals, to find the root of any issue.

That said, we always try to accommodate modifications to our products if we can be near 100% certain it will not interfere with general use or conflict with other popular products.

Thank you for Groupy. I've used it for at least 4 years now. Happy paid customer. I work with a very large monitor (Dell 43in 4k) and use FancyZones as a way to keep track of all my tasks and windows in each zone. This is one of the primary use cases for Groupy, and Groupy 1 has served me incredibly well. However, windows with Groupy 2 tabs don't properly resize to the FancyZone. In Groupy 1, the window + tabs was considered the "full window size". In Groupy 2, it appears that the OS doesn't consider the tabs to be part of the window size. Now the original window is sized to the zone, with the tabs sticking above the top. Groupy 1 properly treats the tabs as part of the window, and thus they resize properly to fit the zone. I've attached an image showing a red box representing the "zone" that FancyZones resizes the window to. This is how it resizes now in Groupy 2:

How Groupy 1 handles the window being resized by FancyZones:

Additionally, I have no use for the mouseover bar and would very much like to request an option to completely disable it across the board. If a window is moved to the top edge of the monitor, it is no longer accessible. Aside from that, I prefer to have my tabs visible at all times, same as how I have them in my web browser.

Thanks again for Groupy. It has been a live saver. I'll be downgrading to Groupy 1 for now. Looking forward to all the improvements to Groupy 2!

Edit: Oh! Something I think is worth mentioning that this 4k + FancyZones + Groupy setup was popularized (in part) by this video on using a 4k tv as a monitor that has 2.8 million views. Here's a link timestamped to where he talked about it: https://youtu.be/QqVwlMmL4mw?t=262

This is a really good description of this issue. I also use FancyZones on a 42" 4K monitor and can confirm that grouped windows behave the way you describe. I am running Windows 11, so this seems to be an issue with both Windows 10 and 11. I have adjusted my FancyZones to accommodate this sizing issue, which works very well.

That is true for both tab options, Pelaird?

So this setting?

It's interesting that File Explorer and Notepad will snap to the FancyZones correctly, with the tabs inside the FancyZone, with either setting of window tabs. However, other apps including Microsoft 365 apps snap to the FancyZones with tabs above the FancyZone, with either setting of window tabs.

That fixed it! Thank you.

Just tested. The integrated tabs work with FancyZones. When I switch to an tab of an app that doesn't support integrated tabs (like Spotify), and move that to another zone then the tabs stick out. So there's an improvement but the behavior is still inconsistent. Personally I'd prefer the non-integrated tabs so that they are visually consistent between all apps.

Integrate tabs option only works for the first tab.  For the integrated tab it fails to comply with tab bar color selection.  For subsequent, un-integrated tabs it loads the correct user defined tab bar color.

That looks correct.

For the first app it is putting the tabs in the titlebar which it has no control over the colour of.  So that remains that green.  Your second tabbed item looks to not be compatible with integrated tabs so the tabs are put above it and Groupy can control the colour of that.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But need to know what "doesn't work"? Please post a video showing us what is your actual issue.

Thank you.
