DeskScapes 11.02 Beta Feedback Thread

With the DeskScapes 11.02 beta release today, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.  

Obtaining the beta:

Object Desktop members can get the beta from within Object Desktop Manager with 'show beta downloads' enabled:

Individual purchases (as well as Object Desktop Members) can also be obtained from your account page:

Reporting an issue:

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

1. Uninstalling DeskScapes beta and it hangs with "removing services". Reason:

2. I configured a dynamic desktop background and I added a rain effect: computer hangs.  (I have a top end CPU and GPU)

As noted before we do not offer support for insider releases of Windows as they are prerelease and prone to bugs.  Even Microsoft do not support those builds.

I would recommend moving to a supported version of Windows.

Issues with Deskscapes starting with the pre-beta (ver 10) version but running 11.01 now.

I can't exactly pinpoint when or what happened, but I'm having this annoying issue where the entire desktop freezes with the spin wheel, and after 30 seconds, it restarts. I pinpointed it to DeskScapes. Everything is okay if I uninstall it (either the beta or the previous version).

Win 11 PRO 23H2

64 Gb ram

Ryzen 7 3700

GF3080 TI

All drivers are up to date. I uninstalled GeForce drivers, used the clean utility for GF, and reinstalled the latest version.

Also, I'm running Geforce Studio 555.85 but had the same issue with previous versions. 

Is there any way to turn debug on and see what crashes explorer.exe? (I'm assuming that is what crashes)

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

A new problem... I know you don't officially support Insider builds but, this is a Preview build of Windows 24H2.

This build appears to break DeskScapes_11.0.1.0-j146-Setup_sd.

I haven't yet tried DeskScapes11_setup_sd or DeskScapes10_setup_sd.

I have purged and reinstalled to no avail.

After installing this Windows 24H2 update Deskscapes will not display a playlist, nor any background I have downloaded through Deskscapes.

I haven't yet reinstalled my graphics drivers.

I'm just giving you a heads-up that something serious is happening with the 24H2 update.

I'll update this if/when I have more info.

I couldn't get Deskscapes to work with this 24H2 update preview. Start11 2.08 also took an inordinately long time to start working after a reboot, so there might also be problems brewing there as well.

AMD driver 'whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.5.1-win10-win11-may15-rdna' is the latest driver for my RX 6700XT and, after initially working okay, it too had problems. My Windows Boot menu screen became distorted and split in half with one half a distorted purple colour and the other half black, normally it's blue and full screen.

My backup software had made a backup earlier this morning so I reverted my C: drive to that backup.
All is well now; but, there seem to be serious graphics problems with the 24H2 Insider Release Candidate Preview.

This is my past, and current, Windows 11 Pro version. It is an Insider build escalating to pre-24H2. I have been using Auto HDR in my Display settings for quite a while now with no detrimental effects on Deskscapes.

I think something more systemic is going on. As I mentioned Start11 was working, but, it took about three times longer than normal to start on Windows booting to the desktop.

We have updated DeskScapes 11.02 (was 11.01) beta.  

We tweaked the DSHost.exe to better account for Windows 24H2.

Well, I've updated to 24H2 and so far, so good. Deskscapes seems to be working well. It seems faster than 11.01.
Also, the randomizer seems to be working better as well.
