SC2 (with a new name) on Steam

The game is "Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters".

I know there is a storied history with this IP and I saw this on Steam.

I'm not sure what the current status is, but wanted to let Stardock know in case you weren't already aware of it.

I'm sure they're aware. The folks behind the original SC I/II (The Ur-Quan Masters), put it up for free. They're also working on a sequel for the original game https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pistolshrimp/free-stars-children-of-infinity

As someone who played the game in 1992, the Open Source remakes, blocked out SC3 from memory, and loved Star Control Origins--I'm really looking forward to more games in this genre, from both Stardock and Pistol Shrimp

The main difference in the Free Stars version is that it includes the 3DO content, which I take that Stardock could not include. That makes the better version for modern times as hardly anyone these days has the patience of reading the dialogue. Also, it is freeware. 🆓
