Updating the full-screen start menu when screen orientation is changed

Hello, I am testing Start11 for my Surface Pro tablet with a full-screen start menu.

It works great, however there is an issue when the screen orientation is changed from landscape to portrait: the start menu is not updated and goes out of the screen. It takes a few closings and re-openings of the start menu before the icon arrangement finally updates to the new orientation.

I would appreciate if you could look into making the change of screen orientation smoother, just like it does for the icons on an iPad when the screen orientation is changed.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I restarted explorer.exe but it does not change anything. It appears to be an issue with Start11 itself.

I only have one tablet PC, so I cannot reproduce it on other machines.

But I think you should see the problem immediately if you install Start11 on a tablet PC like a Surface. Set the Start11 menu to full screen, open it, grab the tablet and physically rotate it to change the screen orientation: the Start11 menu will keep its original dimensions and go out of the screen instead of smoothly adapting to the new orientation.

Dear Basj,
It has been almost one year since I reported the problem, and it is still there on my new Surface Pro 11, even after updating Start11 to version 2.5. Any news from the developers? I understand most users and developers use a traditional desktop or laptop computer and therefore do not notice the problem, but it would be nice to fix this issue for users using touchscreen devices like Surface.

On that note, there are additionally two missing features that would be important for these users:
- the ability to display the Start11 menu when swiping the screen from the bottom, just like the official Windows 11 start menu does.
- the ability to move from one page of the start11 menu to the next by swiping horizontally, just like it does on iPad and Android tablet's home screen.
Thank you for forwarding these considerations to the developers.

Swiping from the bottom of the screen should show the Start11 menu already.  What version of Start11 are you using?

Likewise rotating the screen with a fullscreen menu looks to be correct?

I have been using the latest version of Start11 and this bug has never been addressed for one year and a half now. I guess the message did not get across, so let me share a video showing the problem. Please show it to the developers, it should be very clear.

PS - I should also note that this bug is not restricted to tablet PCs. There is essentially the same problem when using a traditional PC with multiple monitors: clicking the start menu on one monitor and then later on another monitor does not update the icon layout of the start11 menu to the size of the monitor.

Do note that, Neil was Lead Dev for Start11. He did asked you, which Start11 version you have on your system? Also, please share with us your Windows full version and OS Build number.

Thank you,

For your information, the bug is still here after Start11 was upated to version 2.53, and Windows 11 Home updated to build 26100.4652.
