Start11 option "results from everything" require installed version?

I use the portable version of voidtools everything and was curious how start11 v2 is integrated and checks for/uses it?

Trying to ascertain if the portable version is adequate or i actually need to use the everything installer for the option to function with the start menu.  I do have the option enabled but the results are far from instantaneous as they would be if using everything itself/referencing the everything db.   This leads me to believe its not being detected/used?

I run it at startup but perhaps it looks for something in the registry or checks the default install path for the executable?

It needs to be running in the background which it would be by default when installed.  You can tell if it is working as results other than apps and settings should be in an Everything section.

okay, def not working then.  blecgh.  may have to go with the installed version.  for some reason (ease of transfer/restoration/backup probably)  I generally use any software that offers a portable option as portable and place it in a designated dropbox folder.

ive yet to deviate from that even once.  however, losing out on an everything integration might force my hand lol.

could also be because im running the 1.5 alpha version of everything maybe?  any path/string i can check/confirm in the registry?

i believe 1.5a and 1.4 can co-exist so i can always test i suppose.

just for posterity.

all running.  wonder if it relies on the service maybe too.

for future seekers.  it did turn out to be not working due to running the 1.5a version specifically.  portable or otherwise is/was irrelevant. normally i wouldnt touch an alpha but the improvements are so darned substantial i couldn't "not" run it.  anyhow, i'm digressing.

apparently 1.5a everything runs in an "instance" and so to disable that behavior and make it useable to start11 you need to go to everything > tools > options > advanced > alpha_instance and then set it to false.
