Stardock Announces Fences 5

Now in Release Preview with Chameleon, Peek Toggle, and New Enterprise Functionality

Fences 5 is a major update to its popular Windows desktop organization software with over 20 million downloads. Fences solves the problem of a “messy desktop” by automatically organizing Windows desktop icons into shaded areas, creating a clutter-free and productive workspace.

Fences 5 introduces Chameleon™️ – a Windows desktop icon enhancement that blends your desktop icons into your wallpaper. Icons maintain their functionality but fade into the background to remain easily accessible without being a distraction.

Fences 5 Chameleon

Also new in Fences 5, it is now easier than ever to access your Fence groups by bringing them to the top with a single click. Building on the patented Peek™ functionality introduced in Fences 4, Fences 5 enables the ability to access your Fence groups from the taskbar by adding an icon to the taskbar to instantly access your desktop groups.

Fences is used by thousands of businesses, from Education to Government to Healthcare. To help these businesses deploy organized dashboards of desktop icons, Fences 5 for Business adds all-new tooling that makes it easier than ever to manage these deployments. With the new ability to easily import/export layouts for distribution, tooling to load configurations from a network drive during logon, and more, Fences sets the standard for enterprise desktop icon management.

"Fences 5 is designed to deliver a modern desktop experience," said Brad Sams, General Manager of Stardock Software. "Fences is the best way to organize your desktop and with Chameleon and Peek, we have built a modern workflow that provides you instant access to your content while reducing the distractions of the desktop.”

Along with its new features, Fences 5 delivers many other enhancements to the core Fences desktop engine that results in improved performance and enhanced capabilities.

Fences 5 is available today starting at $9.99 with Release Preview discounts available for a limited time
and it is also included in the award-winning Object Desktop suite

Not enough here to warrent an upgrade at this price.  I'd pay £9.99 max for this update.  This is a miss for me. :|

I bought Fences 4 and it didn't work. Why would I want to pay again for Fences 5? Will it work?

Now Fences needs a subscription? No thanks... I'll stick with v4.

There are permanent licensing options available as well for the single and five packs - the links can be found at the bottom of each SKU.

Why did I get a message saying that my email did not qualify me for an upgrade price for Fences 5? See attached screen captures. [email protected]

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Do the email address you posted above linked your previous Fences purchase?

Thanks

In regards to the annual subscription

1. Will this behave similarly to OD subscriptions as to where we still keep Fences 5 but no longer receive updates or will it cease to be accessible without an ongoing subscription?

2. Should we expect a longer development window for Fences 5 and yearly updates to its service?

I have a permanent license for v4 but there is only upgrade discount to annual subscription.
Don't like subscriptions and there is not enough in v5 to make me want to pay ~34 USD for a new permanent license.

Sorry I'll skip this one.

I didnt cry at Start11V2 as i thought that release was balanced with amazing new features and amazing pricing for new comers and upgrades.  For me 10% discount for upgrades is rubbish SD need to come better than that.  Fences with upgrade discount is £27.68 i be blunt i would have paid that for Start11V2 but im finding it impossible to persuade myself to buy this.  THe difference between Fences 4 & 5 is minimal as compared to Start11 & Start11V2 so the pricing doesnt fit IMO.

I call on SD to rethink their pricing model for previous license owners.  I am all up for supporting your hard work but i think you are digging a little too deep for your rewards. Less will bring you more.....!

I'm currently using Fences 2.0, and it's serving its purpose well. I considered upgrading to the latest version, but the shift to a subscription-based model caught me off guard. The cost of a perpetual license seems just way too high...

Everyone wants to have a subscription for their service anymore. And that is a problem because no one can afford to have a subscription for everything. I think people are wanting more and more to free themselves of the shackles of subscriptions that have over saturated the market.

Unfortunately owning a license on Fences 5 seems like an afterthought. The price is marked up by about 300 percent over Fences 4

Of course with what we are currently seeing with Fences 5 certainly doesn't seem like a 30 dollar upgrade yet. I really hope the start 11v2 model prevails here moving forward.

Where do you see a $30 upgrade? I see $9.99 $8.99.

That is for one year doc, you dont own software doing that. Look at the section for permanent license. It costs 30 dollars

Ok...but that's a permanent license...what would you expect? It's yours forever.

I wanted a fair bit more for that pricing.  The difference between V4 & V5 is minimal and isnt worth a 300% increase as @PhoenixRising1  pointed out.

Fences 4 was a one-time purchase for 19,50€.

The last time I upgraded Fences from version to version it was $5. Now, if I want to go the non-subscription route, the upgrade is $27, over 5 times the previous price.

I get inflation etc. but that's just slapping your loyal customers in the face just so you can bring in new ones that will pay you money every year. SaaS for single app desktop customization is ridiculous.

Its yours until the next version comes out.  Then they hit you again if you want the upgrade.
