I actually saw a free version of Paint Shop Pro on excite chat a few years ago. That's how I found out about it. I assumed it was free. Unregistered and not trialware. Maybe I was wrong. Oh well.

PSP 5 has been on a few magazine cover discs as free. You might be able to get that somewhere.

I'd recommend Paint Shop Pro. I have version 8, and version 5 is probably worth looking at.

GIMP is insanely difficult to use, but it does have some neat filter effects.

If you're interested in downloading GIMP, http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/stable.html

I got my copy of PSP5 from PC Plus. It's a really decent computer magazine and they always have some really applications included.

On topic, before using PSP, I found Pixia to be decent http://www.ab.wakwak.com/~knight/ and it is free.

GIMP is by far the best and most powerfull design proggy available for free. It does take a while to fiure out, but not longer than figuring out Photoshop.  Paint Shop Pro is not as powerfull, but definately good enough. If you find an old version for free, go for it.

There are always demo trialware progs available...you can get a demo of the latest Macromedia software from Download.com http://www.download.com/

Fireworks MX 2004 is a great product http://download.com.com/3000-2192-10227163.html?tag=lst-0-1

Hey, dont dis paint...I did a cursor set with animations in it as my 1st skin...

Pixel-by-Pixel creation is a pain though...I dont reccommend it...

Yeah. CrossCursor was made with paint too.

Most of my skins went though paint in various stages.
