Saving a modified CursorFX theme

Thank you for considering my issue!

I brought up the theme Turkey.CurXPTheme today and went to modify X and Y hotspots on the Text Select to 1,1 from the present coordinates of (8,19 via the CursorFX Theme Editor.

Every time i try to save the theme it blows the file away (well, the file is usually there but it has 0 bytes), and if i try the "Save As" option renaming it, nothing is saved.

I then tried opening up the theme in a text editor and tried searching for the present coordinates directly (8,19). I searched for an instance of 19, then looked anywhere near it for an instance of 8, but found none repeatedly.

Then i tried in a hex editor and realized i no longer had any clue as to what i was doing...

Anyone know what i could be doing wrong when i click "Save" and instead it blows the file away? And if not, can anyone tell me how to edit the file with a generic editor to switch those coordinates as mentioned above please?

THANK YOU!!!

I kind of get the feeling they really don't care... CursorFX was never really treated as a mainstream product-

Open the CursorFX Theme Editor and create a new blank theme. Now open the theme you want to edit. Copy each state from the "Normal cursor states" of the theme you are trying to edit, one at a time, and paste them into your new blank theme. Now edit each cursor state the way you like it and save as a new theme.

Thank you very much for trying to help me - i kind of feel like SD has abandoned both me and CursorXP which is a shame, i've used CursorXP for over a couple decades if i recall, back when i once lived within a mile or two or them. Sorry that's no longer the case as i could have just personally visited them and asked for help.

I don't know if i did anything wrong - i opened the editor by clicking "Create Cursor" at the bottom of the Cursor Themes selection window.

Then i opened the Turkey.CurXPTheme by highlighting that theme in the Cursor themes window and to the right of the examples  just under "Current theme: Turkey" clicking the second option from the left, (adjacent to the theme preview magnifying glass icon) which appears to be in yellow with possibly a pencil in the icon.

At this point i have two CursorFX Theme Editor windows open, the one with the blank space holders for each function (a circle with a diagonal line through it and the "+" to the upper left) labeled "CursorFX2" at the top, and another CursorXP Theme Editor window with Turkey.CurXPTheme loaded.

I made sure that "Normal cursor states" was selected in both windows, then clicked on "Standard select" in the "Turkey" editor, pressed Ctrl+C, then clicked on the "Standard select" icon in the "CursorFX2" window and pressed "Ctrl+V".

Nothing.

I also tried the same procedure but instead of using the keyboard shortcuts for copy & paste, i used the theme editor menu selections for copy and paste - still nothing.

What am i doing wrong???

Thank you VERY MUCH for trying to help me!!!

Okay, I'm using CursorFX 4.03 to create this example.

First open CursorFX and then open the Turkey cursor in the editor by clicking the yellow circle w/ the pencil in it.

Now in the same editor window, click the File menu and select New. That should open a new blank theme in the editor. Now save it as a different name. In this example I named it TurkeyTrot.

Now use the editor Edit menu to copy each cursor state, one at a time, in the Turkey cursor, and then select the same cursor state in your new theme, and use the editor Edit menu to paste the cursor. Do this for each cursor state and then save it. Now you can make edits to your new cursor, but don't forget to save it when you're finished.

Try this (no guarantees):

Click on the pencil icon in the main CursorFX window as you did in reply 4.  Then when it comes up in the editor window, immediately "Save As" with a different name. (Add to the end of the filename, what I saw was the new theme doesn't show in the main window with the new name even though it sorts based on actual theme name.  So, make it "Turkey Edit1" or such and it will show right above the original, or "TurkeyEdit1" and it will show right below the original).

Then try editing the new theme (check in the editor to be sure you've got the correct one), change the hot spot on the Standard Select state, save it (same name), and see if that works.

As everything is failing, i suspect the next move is for me to re-install CursorXP. I was also running 4.03, but i am speculating corruption is always possible-

Interesting. I started to believe it was all my hardware/software and that i might be causing a lot of unwarranted attention so i put CursorXP on an old laptop, though it was upgraded to W11 like the mini-tower, and i get the same results - the "Save As" does not save a file and simply clicking "Save" zeros out the original theme file (a file with the original name remains but has 0 bits/bytes).

It sure shouldn't make a difference as far as i can understand, but if it does, both of these computers are running 64 bit W11

Follow the procedure in Reply #5 and it will work.

I tested the TurkeyTrot cursor I created by moving the Hotspot on the Standard Select to the tail and it worked.

The save as method will never work.

Thank you!

What was going wrong was that when i would create the new theme the old one completely disappeared so i was trying to open the original in a new editor thinking i would need to copy from that and paste into the other editor that had the blank theme.

After staring at the editor window for a while i noticed the heading "Window" up in the tool bar, then closely studied the window which i was in and noted a very small protruding border which turned out to be the original theme. Once i separated the two windows within the same editor i was able to copy.

Many thanks for not giving up on me, frustration often gets the better of me.
