Start11 v2's First Update Arrives with New Features

New Features based on your feedback

Today we are releasing the first update for Start11 v2. The app is still considered a Release Preview but with this update, we are adding new functionality based on feedback from users and squashing a number of bugs as well.

With this release, the Pro style is being updated with a couple of new options. You can now turn the profile icon on/off and the right-side panel can now be reduced to a smaller size. And across all of the new styles, you can now hide the search field when not searching too.

In addition to these changes, there are updates to how tabs function inside of menus to make tabs in the same group appear at the same height, the suggested app list is now limited to 14 items, and a lot more. Make sure to check out the entire changelog here.

As we continue to move closer to the final release of Start11 v2, we expect to ship a couple more updates to help squash any bugs that arise. And your feedback is critical, the updates we are shipping today are a direct result of feedback we have received and we read all of it too – join our forums or Discord.

If you haven’t checked out Start11 v2 yet, you can download a free trial or if you are looking for the best value, Object Desktop has all of our best apps for one low price.

Hi Brad,

Great news about Start11 v2. Little language slip-up in the blog — https://www.stardock.com/blog/523496/introducing-start11-v2

"With a two-tone color scheme that compliments your own color or the system accent color, ..."

This paragraph uses the word compliments with an "i". What it meant to say was complements with an "e". Change it, and your blog will be even more perfect than it is already... :)

That's the sort of thing I'd notice...;)

Hi - I clicked yes to update my wife's laptop and was horrified to find that the start menu can't be moved to the right, left or top of the screen. I found a suggested registry key change that supposedly accomplished this, but it didn't work.

I won't move to 11 on my machine until I can dock the start menu on the right side of my screen. I can't find definitively whether this is possible with Start 11.

Thank you

Brad,

Just downloaded the 5 pack and installed it.  Why does it show a Version 2.0 BETA 1.02?

Hey Brad,

Great news to hear that Start11 is going on in the development. Do all Start11 Users needs to pay for the Major release or does it come as an Update?

Best regards

Klaus

Brad,

There are 3 features that would make this program near perfect:

1) If we can move the Power Button close to the Start Button in all Start Menu configurations.  As an option would be best because I don't know if everyone would prefer this.

2) The ability to use the Full Screen start menu only when in touch mode

3) This one I don't know if it is possible but if you can add flyouts for sub menus in JumpLists with the ability to edit the order?

These 3 things would make Start11 the most essential productivity tool imo

I can't find a way to pin files to the start menu - one of the most useful features of V1.  Is it me, or has it been removed?

thanks

I think it is just you :)

The right click menu in Start11 offers a new submenu.  Pinning is under there.

I really want to switch to Start 11 from StartAllBack, but it lacks one key feature that I can't live without. StartAllBack allows mw to place one single combined pimary task bar on my secondary monitor (with no task bar on my primary monitor), something that was a feature of Windows 10 but was removed from Windows 11 in MS's infininte wisdom. If Start 11 was to add such a feature I would switch in an instant. I used the trial to see if I could get them to work together but they don not play well. Please add!

Is there an official Start 11 v. 2 bug thread?  The initial release had problems with Start links as menus, for example Universal Apps.  I'd get an error of something like "access denied".  The first update fixes that issue but appears to introduce general system instability issues.  Everything seems slower.  The MS Photos app opens when you double click a photo, but the window is empty.  Alt-tab, instead of showing small images of the running apps shows just a title bar for many of them.  Any that are title bar only cannot be tabbed to.  They're on the list but selecting them does not open the window.  I reverted to version 1 and reinstalled Start 11 v2.  and saw the same results.  I'm back to version 1.

Windows 11 Home 2H22.  This is a preinstalled 11, not an upgrade from 10.

Were you making use of the new taskbar pinned menus or right clicking a lot in the start menu?

I don't think so, unless that was turned on by default.  Didn't right click.  Just tested the link as menu options.  After that I figured everything was good with Start 11.  As soon as I started using the PC i noticed the erratic behavior.

I tested the new Start update on another PC with the same result.  The entire computer became much slower with the funny alt-tab thumbnails.

That's the one that's causing trouble.  I tried a third time.  Same thing.  Even reaching my WiFi the first time I open the browser takes 30 seconds or more.

And that's the 2.0.0.5 update?

That's really odd as nobody else is having trouble with that one :(

The official Start 11 v. 2 fixed the problems I was having with the beta.  Happy days!
