Stardock Announces Start11 v2

New Start Menu Designs, Taskbar Enhancements and Enterprise Features Now in Release Preview

Stardock announced Start11 v2 and the release preview of the industry's most advanced Start menu, today. This program allows users to fully customize the Windows 10 and 11 Start menu experience with unique features, designs, and restore classic functionality from previous versions of Windows.

New with Start11 v2 are three new Start menu styles that seamlessly blend with Windows 10 and 11. Each new style is centered around a different theme: Apps, Professional, and Launcher, and are fully customizable from top to bottom.

Start11 v2 is also enhancing the taskbar with new functionality that makes it faster to access your files and folders. With this release, you can now pin a file or folder directly to the taskbar without having to open File Explorer. And if you want to build your own quick access menu, you can turn a folder into a popup menu for quick access to frequently used files directly from the taskbar.

"This is a significant update and ships with more than two dozen new features” said Brad Sams, General Manager of Stardock Software. “And we are also introducing new enterprise features as well, including the ability to load a Start menu configuration on login, kiosk functionality that lets you lock components of the Start menu, and improved tooling for advanced deployments.”

Also new with Start11 v2 is an updated search experience with native integration with the Everything search engine. Additionally, Start11 v2 introduces the ability to backup and restore your settings from a file, improved animations when navigating within the Start menus, tinting for a unified icon experience, options for removing folders from the ‘all apps list’, and many more.

Start11 v2 is available today for a discounted price of $5.99 (reg. $6.99) during the release preview period and is also included in the award-winning Object Desktop suite.

Can't wait to upgrade. "Everything integration" already has me sold. At the same time, I understand why some V1 users would be upset about this, esp. those who just bought V1. (I feel sorry for the guy who bought it just days before V2's announcement.) I'd suggest a bit bigger discount for the upgrade, but not sure if that's reasonable. I'd also suggest announcing V2 (as a separate product from V1) on Start11's Steam page to avoid more angry new buyers. I hope V1 still gets updated for bug fixes and stability.

well technically anyone who purchased v1 after oct 1 will get a free upgrade

So is v2 finally able to move the taskbar to the left or right?
That's the main feature I have been waiting for since day one of v1.

Congrats on the release. I'll monitor current issues and make the decision to purchase.

Regarding v1. Will it still be developed? I came to report a couple of issues and found the v2 announcement so please share v1 plans.

Installed Start11 v2, did required reboot, but could not activate the product, claimed that there was no internet connection. Which is not true, my internet connection is just fine. Any ideas what to try?

Just to confirm, you did purchased Start11 V2, yes? If yes, maybe there is some issue on the server side. I just checked on my system and it seem working for me. Please try again and report back.

Start 11 2 click bait! (again!)
I receive an offer via email for the upgrade at a price of 3.99 USD (3.78 €). However, I actually have to pay 4.99€ (5.27 USD) for the upgrade. This is obviously a scam by Stardock, because even including taxes I don't get the final price.
Explain yourself Stardock!

I wouldn't expect it.  I'm fairly certain I've never seen Stardock (or anyone else really) continue development on a version once it's been superseded.

In the US all prices are listed excluding tax (which varies by state).

Internationally (certainly in Europe) all prices have to include tax (in Europe usually around 20%). Hence the price difference.

Sorry to disappoint, but no scam.

You also have to factor in quoted exchange rates are mid market rates not the buy/sell rate.  So things end up a little more because of that and rates I think are preset rather than adjusting daily (store limitations I think)

Emails never include taxes in them as in the US taxes vary from state to state so taxes are never shown in the headline price.

Yes I did purchase V2.

Have you tried to activate it again. Or just as a test try install on another system and activate it.

How do we get people to give us more money? Add v2 to the end of the product name.
So true... saddly

Quoting Neil, reply 25

If you are not interested in it then simply ignore it exists and you are in the same situation you were in before.

Of course I am interested in the upgrade for a product I paid for.

Why should I ignore it, just because I have to pay again?

Quoting rizwanrajput, reply 45

Why can't we use Start11 product key with this new version? It's the same app, just a new version.
I have the same question, and that being a major upgrade is no excuse to charge again.

Windows 10 and 11 have received several major updates and that is not why Microsoft is charging the license fee again.

Quoting Narusegawa, reply 46

Because this is a Major update not a Minor one. Major updates are not free and will require an upgrade purchase.
I said it above: major upgrades are still just that: upgrades.

If so we would have to pay several times for our windows 10 and 11.

When I bought my Start11 licenses I was thinking that I would receive support for all its updates, major or minor, but I see that I was wrong.

Quoting Bakensobek, reply 49

So when Windows 12 releases next year (as several sites seem to infer could be coming), most likely there will be a "Start 12" that will require *yet* another purchase. So thanks, but I'm saying no to v2.
I think the same. The support for this "new" Start11 will be short-lived.

When Windows 12 comes out (most likely next year), Start12 will surely come out.

With this lack of seriousness for Start11 buyers, I have serious doubts to buy Start12 knowing that I will probably have to pay double if Start12 v2 comes out as well.

i feel there should be a "if you have a v1 licence then it wont work on v2" banner. i quickly scanned over the page and didnt see anything like that. now ive installed v2 thinking cool its just an upgrade of 1... and bleh.

it doesnt even say "your licence is for v1 please upgrade" it just says "failed" or "no licence available on your account". not impressed with that at all.

when i saw the whole announcement of v2 i was like cool. i'll defs be in to upgrade for like a 50% discount type thing.. didnt see anything other than "upgrade" button under the purchase button. but thought maybe thats upgrade from start8 to start11. i honestly didnt see it mentioned anywhere that its a whole new product.. also the discount is a bit of a let down :(

I think you missed the part where it is only 4 bucks. It is cheap for everyone right now don't focus too much on the percentage

That is utter nonsense. You are not seriously comparing MS' Windows update policy with Stardocks?  That said, try to get free updates of major Office programs or other software releases of all other software makers. Good luck with that!

Other than that we are discussing the price of a (not even large) Starbucks coffee here. That is quite ridiculous.

I tried to install it again today. Same issue unable to connect to the activation server, check your internet connection. I ran a speed test download 366 MBPS upload 12.5 MBPS.

Quoting gman2006a, reply 71

where can I get a copy of V1 of Start11?

If you purchased start11 v1 in the past you can download it from your downloads on the Stardock store.

However this is unlikely to fix your issue with unable to connect to servers.

EDIT: Nevermind, this only happens when 'Use Start 11 Search in Start 11' is switched off. SOLVED.

I  have plenty of apps I can't pin to Start 11. :-( Problem is, they don't appear under all apps also.

I really would like hte shutdown button on the bottom again in all styles (as an option?). And it overlaps with the all apps button.
