Gal Civ IV on i5-3570K and GTX 660 Ti?

System requirements

Hi,

can my 11 year old PC handle Gal Civ IV Supernova? I have an i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), 8 GB Ram, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti with 2 GB Ram and running Windows 10 (64-bit). My DxDiag says I am running at DirectX version 12. So on paper, my system meets the minimum system requirements. But I am not sure if my system can really run Gal Civ IV. (It does Gal Civ III runs fine).

Thanks for your help!

I mostly run it on a laptop I bought for school work a couple years ago. Only upgrade was 32GB RAM and output to a large monitor.

ACER Aspire A515-43, this was/is not a gaming system and listed under 400 on amazon when new.

Besides the RAM, your specs seem better than the laptops.

You'll only be able to play medium size universes with fewer AI Civs and maybe not highest video settings, but the game should play.  The 8GB of RAM and 4 cores is going to make the game performance much less than optimal.  The game software is written to take advantage of multiple cores to run AI and other tasks in the background while you're thinking at human speed on your turn }:)

This is a good point.

I only finished 1 game on immense with a single sector. It was a drag in the 'early late' game, but got a bit better as the number of civs dropped off.

Mostly I now either play large single maps, or tiny/small with a lot/max number of sectors.

I also tend to play less then 25 civs.

The default settings/setup works very well all game.
