After updating to the beta 2.0.0.1

Opening the Control Panel as a menu from the shortcut list now works, but the first entry is as follows.

::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0\::{98F2AB62-0E29-4E4C-8EE7-B542E66740B1}

Windows 11 - 22621.2506

ADDITIONAL INFO:  If I enter these locations in the following Administrator Command prompt:

C:\Windows\System32>explorer shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0\

Opens the Control Panel

C:\Windows\System32>explorer shell:::{98F2AB62-0E29-4E4C-8EE7-B542E66740B1}

Brings up an Error dialog

I have just installed V2 over the latest release of v1 and when I look in the settings menu/taskbar it informs me in red that the Taskbar is being managed by another program. The only program that modified the Taskbar settings was the old v1 that had just been written over. The new version does not seem to be able to pick that up!

I tried to reinstall v1 to remove this setting but that just screwed up all the settings in v1 so now I have performed a restore from a system image and v1 is back to normal.

I will wait a while while you get some of these bugs sorted before I try again!!!

This is a one off issue on first install because of when the config gets launched.  This is resolved in the 2.0.0.1 update or you could just close and reopen the config and it would have been fine.

I'm using Start11 2.0 Beta 1.01.  I have it configured to use the Modern style with automatic color selection.  I've noticed that hovered items have low contrast between the text color and background color.

If I use the option to override the item selection highlight, it only affects submenus such as "Universal Applications" and "Control Panel".

There is a problem that Menu on the new start menu "access denied "on Favorites and admin tools. Links are just fine. "Run as admin" does not work when right clicking disk cleanup.

Version 2.0.0.1 beta fixed it for me.

Why do the right-click context menus not have the Mica effect?

Will there be ability to have a choice of taskbars: for instance, a Windows 10 taskbar with calendar and clock flyout?

I believe this is still working in Windows 11, no?

Thank you,

I remember in Windows 10, there was big digital clock above the calendar.

I don't think that is possible in Windows 11.

BUG or NOT?

The feature under Search "Show results from Everything instead of start 11" has a problem.

I have Everything Light installed and running as a Service.  I also have everything start on system start.  This causes a problem for Start11-V2 as Start11's search with the above option selected cannot access everythings search results. If i prevent everything from loading the GUI at start then this isnt a problem for Start11. Not sure if this is becuase Everything's GUI when loaded is locked to Everythings service or Start11 has a problem when handshaking with everythings service when the gui is loaded.

For now this isnt a problem as im still enjoying my honeymoon period with V2 but i think longterm this isnt a feature id use if i cannot have everythings GUI running in the background.

Under settings backup> Backup Settings to a file.  This opens a page  to which you give your file a name and to the right of that you have "Open"... Shouldnt this be "Save"?

This has to be one of the best updates ive seen for 2023.. From a productivity POV this is such a great addition/update. :beer:

I got a funny feeling M$ will be looking to snap up Stardock soooooon!

i cannot use any of the start menu.

No change is applied when I click on any of them (and restart explorer), and there is no error message.

How can I fix this?

Those that are qualified to help you will need a little more info than this.....?

Hi -- I am on Start 11 V2 beta (1.01) and I am using "Windows Pro Style" Start Menu.  Can you show me how to create a short cut to open just the "Universal Application" on the Short Cut list just as in the Modern Style?

Thank you

In Start11 v2, I have noticed that certain icons have their colors inverted.

Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen:

1. Pin the GeForce Experience program to the menu.

2. Notice the inverted icon colors.

Inverted Icon Tiles

3. Look for the icon in the "All Apps" section on the left.

4. Notice the inverted icon colors (again).

Inverted NVIDIA GeForce Experience Icon

The same inversion bug applies to Alienware Command Center:

The icons are also inverted in the "Suggested" section:

Exact Windows version / build (winver.exe): Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2428)

Start11 version: Version 2.0 BETA 1

NVIDIA GeForce Experience version: 3.27.0.112

Alienware Command Center version: 5.5.51.0 (Note: That link points to a slightly older version of the application.)

The Alienware one is probably correct.  That icon would be dark grey on near black otherwise.

The geforce one is less easy to explain as the colours are being inverted too.  Will need to investigate that.

And yes, I know you don't support previews, but I just thought you may want to know.

With the addition of pinned folder menus, this version now makes it possible to use Windows 11 as a daily driver!

That was the last bit of functionality from Win10 and earlier MS had removed that I rely on in my daily work.

Two features that would be really nice to polish that off though would be two new "items" to add to the taskbar...

Current

Proposed

1. The red line after the first two icons, .... a "separator" of sorts

2. The double-ended arrow in the empty space, which would apply after the "main" icons, and anything pinned after it would be pushed to the right end, where I have the old Windows "Desktop" and "Remote Desktops" menus. ... or maybe instead of an "expando" item, ... when you pin an item, you could just choose to pin it optionally to the right end (left end/center being the default).
