Research, Interrupted

I've found that my current research project is abruptly deselected, is no longer available for selection, and I'm required to choose a new research project. This has happened upon a couple of key research projects:

  1. Orbital ship assembly (Medium hulls) disappears, and I had to research Large Hull Construction before it re-appears as an option.
  2. Carrier disappears, and I'm now trudging through Planetary Defense Dome.

I suspect what has happened is that I've traded tech such that the game has made a decision that my current research project is no longer allowed. I can find a save game to demonstrate if this will be useful.

However I don't think this is a sensible dynamic which essentially means that during times of critical research, players stop trading tech. So if this is intention, can it be disabled, or some kind of a warning displayed? I've no idea what the criteria for kicking out my current research project is, nor do I care for having to switch between the tech tree and the trading screen to establish whether a proposed deal will mess up my research. So if this feature is intended, and is here to stay, then a warning please.

Does the research disappear completely, or does it just disappear from the discounted techs on the left of the screen?  Is it included in the list on the right side of the screen, but you aren't looking there?

There is bug I've reported multiple times, with saves, since April.

Sometimes when you complete a trade, your current research is cancelled.  You then have to chose what to research, but the tech you were researching is still available.  If it was one of the discounted techs on the left of the screen, it probably won't be in the discount list after being cancelled.  It will be in the list on the right side of the screen.  You can choose it there, but it will be at full cost instead of the discount cost.

If the tech isn't available in either list, you have found a different bug.  Whatever the case, a save should be useful for finding the problem, if anyone will actually look at it.

I suspect you may be looking at Nova rather than the base game, but...

The Carriers tech is there, but not available as a research option. As you can see, I'd got half way through researching it, then it disappeared, so I've been forced to continue with other techs.
