Nullsoft Winamp is a fast, flexible, high-fidelity media player for Windows. Winamp supports playback of many audio (MP3, OGG, AAC, WAV, MOD, XM, S3M, IT, MIDI, etc) and video types (AVI,ASF,MPEG,NSV), custom appearances called skins (supporting both classic Winamp 1.x/2.x skins and Winamp 3 freeform skins), audio visualization and audio effect plug-ins (including two industry dominating visualization plug-ins), an advanced media library, Internet radio and TV support, CD ripping, and CD burning.

Winamp5 Lite is also available.

Changes in Current Version:
Support for classic Winamp 1.x/2.x/2.9x skins and Winamp 3 ("Modern") skins
Fancy new modern skin
Same ol' classic skin for people who want the Winamp 2 feel
Vastly more powerful media library
CD ripping support (AAC@2x in free version, MP3 at unlimited speeds in pro)
CD burning support (limited to 2x in free version)
Advanced title formatting logic for file types that support it
Huge AVS updates
Support for playback of AAC and VP6 in NSV files/streams
Global hotkey support
New Signal Processing Studio DSP plug-in
Options to disable plugin exception handling for developers
A ton of new plug-in API calls (SDK forthcoming)
Fixed changing-systray options while minimized bug
New Winamp icon
Added XP Manifest.xml to winamp.exe
Made agent icon use configured winamp system tray icon
Optimized winamp's load titles on demand logic, made faster
Made winamp's internal submenu management more reliable
Added skin font override preferences
Added spacebar shows current playlist item in playlist editor
Fixed manual playlist advance w/ repeat
Made winamp's open directory recurse checkbox nicer looking
Big prefs overhaul

Travis........as with all the RC versions winamp.com and nullsoft seem to be the last to know

No thanks. I will stick to WMP 9 and Jetaudio with a little Itunes on the side.

Winamp is so hard to use for me.

And if that was not enough......check this skin out if you have not got it already...........amazing work https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=10&skinid=968

I never liked the default WA skin before, but with this new default modern skin it works much better for me. I like how it can do notifications of the song played similiar to sign-ons with IM clients.
I have had it crash a couple times which didn't happen for me with even the alpha version of 5, so hopefully it doesn't continue. Aside from that it says once again that Winamp is the king of mp3 players.

I STRONGLY disagree. >

Why? It does everything and does it well, plus it has a library of like 50,000 skins...what more could you want from a skinnable MP3 player?
I don't care if it is skinnable or not. Have my proggies on my computer are not skinned as I feel skinning them is a waste of time.

Jetaudio does everything that winamp does and also has built in recording and burning tools.

Musicmatch jukebox blows winamp away. It even blows Itunes and jetaudio away.

Musicmatch is my choice.

I don't know, winamp 5 is pretty slick. It'll do most everything musicmatch will do. And in my opinion it looks better doing it

does it let you do 1 click burns to a cd r?

Gotta love the way Kona thinks...

also musicmatch has a broader graphic equlizer and better mp3 editing tools.

Hey Hus all thoses programs blow winamp away.

Point being, until winamp is as easy to use as WMP 9, I will not use it. to primitive.

well, use what you like. I like winamp, and i'll use that.

Kona : I own JetAudio (because it is the only big player that is capable of reading CD-Text) and MusicMatch, too.
And I still think without the ripping capabilities Winamp (2+5, not speaking of 3 here) is the best overall PLAYER and it beats both in terms of loading speed and performance. And of course the variety of skins is unbeatable (which might not interest You as I learned from Your post).

It is strange that someone who comes to a skinning site doesn't like skinning, then why are you here? I often keep winamp hidden or minimized so the skin doesn't matter too much to me, but still I don't like things to be drab. But skinning aside winamp is faster than musicmatch. I own Musicmatch and while I do use it for ripping and burning, it is so doggone slow to show up. If it were faster I might use it for everything. Also there are some quirks with it that I find annoying. Like if I want to find a file, well if i use the File..Open in MMJB it has its own custom open box and it is more difficult to locate some things.
As for WMP I hardly use it, because I don't find it very user friendly. The standard skin is too large for me and have yet to find a minimal one that works for me.

Yes Kona...why DO you hang out at a skinning site? You almost invariably have an opposite view on most things here, especially skinning.Winamp does 4 things better than WMP.CPU usage is 1\10 as much while playing an mp3.When you stop a song it soft stops instead of just killing the sound.ALPHA TRANSPARENCY.Scalability.(not to mention winamp radio)

.I too use MM for burning cd's,but I had to PAY for that.
