Strange behavior of grouped tabs

Hello devs,

I have a strange behavior with the grouped tabs after you selected another tab with the combined taskbar button.

To repeat :
group some windows, use "show only one combined button" in the groupy settings
select any windows with the "combined button"
try now to reorder your grouped tabs and you can only move the last select one (with "combined button")
the focus will stay on the selected tab with "combined button" and not more on the real selected tab

It some hard to explain, so I uploaded screen record for you to check:

Have a good day.

I believe, it is best for you to update your Windows 10 version to latest release version. Version 22H2 OS build 19045.2965 or later and Groupy Version 2 Beta 2.

Thank you,

Hi,

I will make the Windows update later, so we will see.

Where I can get the Groupy 2 BETA 2 version ? The check button tell's me - there is no update available.

btw. I was using the BETA previously (same behavior as non BETA version).

Best Regards,

I am sorry, there is no longer Beta 2 available since a full version just released replacing the beta 2. Also, I checked and I cannot reproduce your issue on my system.

I reported this issue with the initial release of Groupy2Beta1 on Windows 10 - 19045.3030. It is still an issue with the General Release. Any interaction with the taskbar icon, regardless of the setting for "How should taskbar buttons for grouped windows appear?" I have tried a clean boot and the issue persists. I am also running Start11 - 1.45.

Current system Windows 10 - 19045.3086

Hello,

looks like I'm not the only one with this issue.

@Basj - is there something I (or maybe we both with pelaird if he is willing to do so) can provide to help resolve the issue ?
It's really annoying and ruined the whole groupy experience.

Hello,

looks like I'm not the only one with this issue.

Neither Sean or Basj have been able to reproduce this issue, so it must be something specific to our systems. We are running different versions of Windows 10, so it's not that. Something is interfering somewhere. If we can find an app or utility that we have in common, perhaps we can figure this out. Send me a private message with apps you're running which you think might be causing this, and I will reply with my list.

Looking foreword to hearing from you.

Basj,

Try this on your Windows 10 system and let me know what happens.

In the Windows 10 Taskbar settings, set "Combine taskbar buttons to "Never."

Now in the Groupy2 settings, set the following:

Place tabs above; Show all taskbar buttons; Always visible tabs

Now open two or three explorer windows in a group.

If I click only the buttons, everything works as expected, but as soon as I click on one of the taskbar thumbnails, the issue discussed above begins to happen.

Thanks, pelaird

Hello again.

I can not reproduce your issue. Refer video below. Please review it and see if there is incorrect steps or setting on my part to reproduce your issue.

Thanks for taking the time to create this video. It’s just crazy that the OP and my systems are unique in this issue. I will continue to work with the OP to try and trace the cause of this issue. I have purged and reinstalled to no avail. Something is causing this, but it’s difficult to trace.

Thanks again.

Would like to suggest cleanboot or test it on Windows Sandbox

Installed Groupy2 in a Sandbox as you suggested and everything works as expected. I will continue to try and isolate the issue on my system.

I uninstalled Groupy2 and purged everything from my system related to Groupy or Groupy2. I then installed Groupy1.5. Everything works flawlessly. Nothing else changed on my system between the Groupy versions. I'm wondering what changed in Groupy2 that could cause this issue with the taskbar thumbnails on Windows 10?  Why would a conflict occur with Groupy2 and not Groupy1.5?

I exchanged a list of installed apps with the OP, and I can't find any common apps between my system and his except for OfficeClickToRun, Nvidia Display Drivers, and all the standard Windows Apps installed with Windows 10.

Consider me baffled!

Update: I installed Groupy2 on a Windows 11 test machine and it exhibited the same behavior as discussed above. I uninstalled one app after another with a restart in between each and then tested Groupy2 for the issue. After uninstalling all third party apps and all non-OS installed Windows Apps, the issue continued. This machine had Groupy1.5 installed prior to installing Groupy2.

I then wiped the test machine and did a clean install of Windows 10 - 19045.3086, followed by a fresh installed Groupy2. Everything works as expected.

I plan to start adding apps one at a time until the issue reappears. I will report back with my findings.

Update after adding all my apps: The issue above has not resurfaced.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe a remnant of Groupy1.5 must be hiding somewhere on the system or in the Registry that could be causing this issue. as I said both machines had Groupy1.5 installed prior to installing Groupy2.
