BUG Cannot drag & drop Outlook attachments

BUG Cannot drag & drop Outlook attachments

There appears to be a bug in Start11 that does not allow drag&drop of files or emails in to file explorer, or to drop them inside another email as attachments.  Yes it is possible to save these as files and store them in file explorer somewhere, and then "attach" them, but that's a long and wasted route.

Is it a bug or is it not possible to allow drag & drop within outlook, and to files explorer?

Start11 should have nothing to do with Drag & drop in applications?

Neil, you would think so, but I've turned Start11 off and now outlook can drag and drop to anywhere.  This was done without closing outlook, so it appears theres a problem when running Start11.

Disable any Outlook add-ins you're using and see if that makes any difference.

Disabled all Outlook add-ins, closed outlook, shutdown, rebooted, opened outlook and no change.  Still cannot drag and drop to email or File Explorer.

Maybe Outlook was corrupted, so created a new outlook profile.  Still cannot drag and drop to email or File Explorer.

Uninstalled Start11, opened outlook... and drag & drop to email worked.  It also worked dragging to File Explorer.

Reinstalled Start11, opened outlook... and drag & drop to email DID NOT work.  Also DID NOT work dragging to File Explorer.

The option of enhancing the Taskbar seems to cause the problem.  When off, D&D works.  When on, does not work.

When the taskbar was enhanced tried changing several options to see if any one allowed D&D.  None that I could find.

At a loss unless someone can help.

This is a strange one for sure. The fact that Paul could not reproduce this on the same versions on Windows 11 and Outlook is also very strange. Hopefully Paul will check it again with "Enhance taskbar" turned on and see if he gets the same result as you. In an unrelated issue with Groupy which causes Excel to be unable to change printers even when Excel is in the "Application Exclusion" list. If Groupy is turned off, Excel works as expected. This is something that Groupy should "have nothing to with" as Neil says above, but it does.

Your issue seems to be one of those where a process is interrupted where Start11 should not be causing problems unless there is something else on your system which affects the process.

Hope they can find the problem for you and provide a solution. B)

I have Groupy installed and not noticed printers could not be changed.  Tried it and you're right, cannot change printers.  Turning off Groupy does not change my above problem.

BTW, I can D&D from File Explorer to an open Outlook email.  Just not the other way, or from within outlook to an open email.

Hi is there any news or suggestions from the support team?

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thank you,

Bitdefender was not happy with the .bat file, so turned off advanced threat.  restarted, ran the file as admin, Purge done, and rebooted.

Reinstalled latest S11 from account page.  Rebooted again.  D&D was working when S11 installed, but once turning on the enhanced taskbar... it does not work.  Same as before, it's a problem when the taskbar is enhanced.

Further ideas?

Are you dragging files to the taskbar or directly to the open windows themselves?

I do drag to the taskbar and wait for the email to come to front to drop the file.  The email does not come to front, so cannot drop the file.

Dragging from outlook to the email directly does allow to drop and attach.  It also works dragging direct to File Explorer.

Dragging from File Explorer, to the taskbar, to an open email also works.

It's only dragging from outlook via the taskbar that doesn't.

Tried creating a new windows account with admin, opened outlook and still could not drag and drop to an email.

Did a clean boot, turning off all services etc.  Ran the StartStart10_11 bat file, rebooted, and started outlook and S11.  Whilst S11 opened and I could change options in S11, it did not change the taskbar, the start menu or any other chosen option.  Could not get it to work.

Ran the bat file twice, once as admin, once normal.

Both times there was an error.  After pressing any key starting S11 opens the menu, but no options work.

Just a data point, may/may not be related: I've had File Explorer drag/drop issues like this for years across multiple Windows releases. Every now and then (once a month?), Windows will get into a state where the drag operation is immediately cancelled. You only see your icon drag for a few milliseconds then drop back to its original position. A reboot should clear that up but it is infuriating. I sympathize.

Curiously here though, it's persisting across reboot. So maybe unrelated to my data point.

Thats a good test effort.

I would also ask that the OP upload complete videos of the issue and post shared links in a reply.
