Civilization proximity

Im playing GC4, and im wondering why every game i create with a huge galaxy size and civ. proximity is set to far with 8 players including myself, that i constantly encounter another civilization in "my" own galaxy havent even played 20 turns and boom there the first "enemy" is. Shouldnt they be in their "own" galaxy?

Thanks for the feedback, has this happened in any of your other sessions?

How large are the sector sizes? I typically play about 7 races, medium sector sizes, and proximity far. And I've never had another race in my sector.  Sometimes right outside but never in it.

Have played many games largest map medium start sector far proximity no minors and TWO AI and both AI were in the next sector or second one when there was at least 6 sectors in the chains.

Of course IMHO the largest map should have 8 to 10 chains of 8 to 10 sectors with sector size averaging medium.

Would not cry if the map had 300,000 hexes to explore

As a Discord and Steam moderator I hope this happens in Supernova. As this is what happens in the base game.

Ive just got a new pc, and installed the game all over on my new pc again, and it happens every game now.

Thank you for your feedback, sector generation is a topic within Supernova, so it should be fixed soon anyways. However, should you encounter similar bugs, we would be very grateful for posting about your findings!

But when is soon, because i dont want to play the game if its bugged like this and that just makes me feel like ive spend money on something i cant enjoy.

Sorry it seems like im an idiot.

Number of sectors were set to small

It is fine, we all make mistakes :)

As for the question - "how soon" - early access for supernova begins on 27th of April. So I'd say very soon ;)

Is this official and am I free to use this answer on Steam and Discord or am I still under the NDA as far as release date is concerned?

Realize I am under it as far as being a moderator (ghost88) and other NDA areas

I've actually had the same problem my last 3 sessions. It *never* happened when I had the overall game set to 'beginner' difficulty, but now that I've ever so cautiously moved up to 'easy'? It happens every time. Two -- once three -- AIs either in 'my' sector or right next door and spilling like a vast horde of tribbles out of the bulkheads and onto my head.

Proximity: Far

Galaxy Size: Huge

Number of Sectors: Gigantic

I hope this point of data helps?

With Galaxy size set to huge, and the number of sectors set to one less than the max, and distance set to far, I have not yet had another race start in my sector with all 18 starting civs in the game. I do however see some of their probe ships enter my sector fairly soon because they researched the appropriate tech.

Fyi to OP, this game takes place in the same galaxy divided into sectors if you select such. There are not different galaxies.

I am also encountering this issue in the latest version (EA version on Steam).

Galaxy Size: Large
Number of Sectors: Several
Civilization Proximity: Distant

I tried to create a new game several times with different opponent numbers, ranging from 12 to 22. When opponent number was set to 22, I've started only once in a small sector with 4 others; most of the time everyone simply started in the same big sector.

When there are less opponents, it seems to work a bit better. But if that number is high, it feels like the game just ignores starting options.

What I'm trying to create by the way is a galaxy where there are roughly equal number of players in each sector; maybe even one or two is just empty, depending on the number of sectors.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

What is your sector size?  I play normal with large sector sizes and almost never have another race in my sector.  Of course I only play 7-8 races too...............

I thought the galaxy size setting set the size for the entire galaxy in the game but some of the responses here seem to indicate it sets the size of your starting sector. Is this the case? Does galaxy size set your sector size and number of sectors sets your overall galaxy size? When I hover over that setting the tool tip says overall galaxy size.

Make sure it's not a MINOR civ.  Minor Civs are set up to be spawned near starting locations.

Either there is something wrong with the galaxy generation, or I interpret the map settings very wrong.

Large galaxy size, many sectors, 9 players including me. Distance is set to far, so I expect at least some of my opponents to start in a different sector since there is not enough room in this sector for everyone to justify that "far" setting. Yet here we are, all starting in the same sector.
