Windows Notepad 11 (with tabs) not skinning well

The latest Windows 11 includes the update to a tabbed version of NotePad, but it's not skinning well.

I expected it to look like the skinning on multiple tabs in File Explorer. I happen to be using the Modern skin.

Thanks

Hello,
I believe this is known, however, I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

That skin does not have the tabbed section skinned under 11. So it just renders like that. The skin author would need to update that skin.

I believe the Windows 11 notepad don't use the Caption (Tabbed) frame like Explorer. Even with skin that have the Caption tabbed section put in the Notepad just use the normal Caption frame.

Notepad uses Window glass areas> light glass area 11.

The skin that he is using (modern) does not have that section skinned. So it defaults to a toolbar texture. pulled from toolbar controls>Rebar controls>background. All of the skins included in windowblinds do not have that section skinned for 11.

It uses light glass area 11, but since that skin does not have an image defined. It pulls the toolbar background from: toolbar controls>Rebar controls>background, does not use the tabbed caption frame.

This toolbar thing is related to the top glass bug as well.

Wow, thank you all so much for such a quick response. But I'm sorry to say I don't think I yet understand. Is this something I can fix? Is it a bug in the Stardock software? Is it a bug in the skin(s)? Sorry for the stupid questions, but I'm a VERY casual (and somewhat new) user of WindowBlinds.

But I've used Stardock software since Galactic Civ (OS/2 even I believe), so when I noticed something off, I thought it would be good to report it.

But if there is something I should be doing different, please help educate me, as I LOVE learning something new.

From what I have gathered. The notepad section will need to be skinned and defined by the artists. This is something that can be done by anyone that knows how to use skin studio. However, skinning really isn't that easy for the average user. I struggle with it myself. I am sure all the stardock skins such as modern ect. will eventually get an update to fix them.

Notepad was a pretty basic app that never required artists to define or skin in the past. All that changes now that Microsoft added tabs to it.

The authors of the skin included with windowblinds 11 will need to update them to support the new tabbed bar feature in notepad. So unless you want to get your hands into skin studio to fix it quickly, you would need to waif for them to update them and who knows when that will happen. It can be easily fixed in skin studio however. Just follow these steps below.

1. Open modern in skin studio, and select Edit Titlebars and WindowFrames

2. Edit Per pixel frames

3. Select the dropdown section and find "glass_area_top.bmp" and select it.

4. Select "This image has frames stacked vertically.

5. Save skin and then re-apply through skin studio or Windowblinds. Its should look like where the line points to below now.

Your instructions are perfect, and easy to follow, thank you so much! But I seem to not have the same version as you do, and I can't seem to find out how to update.

Thank you so much for all of your help!

I found it! You must be in Pro Mode (see all options), and I clearly am not experienced in this tool. There's still an odd quirk or two but I've learned a reboot may fix that.

Thank you again!

We are working on a WindowBlinds update that makes it aware of the notepad tabs.
