System Tray is Missing When Using Start11 Taskbar Control

When using Start11 1.39 and Windows 11 Pro Build 22621

When using Start11 1.39 and Windows 11 Pro Build 22621, the system tray and notifications disappear if I turn on Let Start11 control the task bar.  Comes back when I turn it off.  I have 3 monitors - all do the same thing.

Would you be using an insider preview version?  Say 22621.1324?

I am using a preview version - 22621.1343

Same issue ! since KB5022913 taskbar has changed someway like in beta.

By the way taskbar size cannot be set to "small" anymore...

Windows version 22621.1343
Start11 version : 1.39.1

Thank you !

EDIT : Btw, uninstall this KB to restore Taskbar Control

Yes the taskbar changed to the one in beta/dev channel and because it has an earlier build number Start11 isn't aware of the change.

We have an updated version of Start11 hopefully ready to go next week which will support that preview build.

Noting that the referenced KB is apparently part of the normal release channel now. I saw it update yesterday, and now I'm experiencing the same problem.

I understand it is marked as optional and possibly preview too?

Anyway installing the 1.4 beta update for Start11 will resolve this.  I would expect us to move this to release in the coming week.

I installed 1.41 and it has taken care of the missing system tray.  Thanks for the quick response and solution!

This situation is continuing using the latest update of Start11 on 6/27/25; system tray is not appearing on the taskbar.

Start10 was so easy to use.  WTH is wrong with Start11 that things which worked fine on Start10 are problems now?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Which issue are you're referring? Please elaborate and we need details on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? Need its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 full version number.

Thank you,

As was requested, are you running Win11 24H2? Or are you running 23H2 or older?

Also, are you running Start11 v1 (latest version is 1.55)? Or are you running Start11 v2 (latest version is 2.53)?

I have multiple Win11 24H2 systems running Start11, some with v1 and some with v2. No problems on any of them with system tray not appearing.

NOTE: do you have Start11 Settings -> Taskbar -> Let Start11 enhance the Windows taskbar ENABLED or DISABLED? Again, I have both of these configurations on my assorted Win11 machines, and again no problem with system tray not appearing.

Are you running any other 3rd-party products that can manipulate the Windows taskbar and/or notification area (e.g. Explorer Patcher)?

==> Please provide requested info.

No, I was simply adding my own additional comments, and reinforcing your request for information about the software environment of cm1556's system.

I myself have a variety of Win11 machines, some with 23H2 and other with 24H2. Also some with Start11 v1.55 and others with Start11 v2.53. Some with Start11 enabled to "enhance the taskbar" and other not. And I do not the symptom of "no notification area" on any machine.

So I just wanted to ask cm1556 to provide additional details in order to perhaps point to some possible explanation for why he sees what he is seeing.

cm1556,

What you are seeing IS the notification area (aka "system tray") for Win11 24H2!

MS has made significant changes to what gets shown over there. You must configure the "user icons" (i.e. those other than the "system icons") by right-clicking on the taskbar, and then selecting "taskbar settings".

Here is an example of one of my Win11 24H2 systems, which does NOT have Start11 controlling the taskbar itself. So this is pure MS Win11 24H2 + Start11 v2.53:

Note the user icons that I've got visible in the system tray area, along with the system icons.

And the "Settings -> Personalization -> Taskbar" Windows settings to produce that presentation is:
