Game Crashes, Computer Restarts

I have come upon an issue in the game both early and late, so I don't think it's a memory issue.

When I zoom onto one of my ships, double click it to follow (focus), and then use the right mouse button to rotate around it my whole computer crashes and restarts.

ROG Strix G15 AA, Ryzen 9 5900HX 3.30 GHz, Radeon RX 6800M GPU, 32 GB 3200 Mhz Ram, Samsung 1 TB SSD.

There is an update out today, can you make sure you have that update and then test this again?

I've played a few rounds and think the issue is fixed.  I rotated pretty rapidly on a focused ship during combat for extended periods and I'm not crashing anymore.  Thanks.

Sorry, it is still happening and more frequently now.  Looks to be worse late game and it is now happening when I focus on a ship before phase jumping.

Can you get the save file for where you're crashing? We can try loading it up and seeing if we crash as well. Might be specific to hardware, your save would give us a jumping off point to test.

Yeah let me recreate it and post it here.  It'll be a few days as I don't know which file it is anymore.

Actually I'm having a hard time finding my saved game.  I see the saved game folder, but there are no files in there earlier than November of last year.  Where do I find the saved games now?

Saves are now being stored in "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\sins2_pre_alpha\saved_games"

Hey Michael thanks for the save file. I loaded up the save and had the fleet jump but wasn't able to reproduce the crash. Can you think of anything else you might be doing that could help nail down why a crash is happening? Are you zooming into a specific ship? Are you looking at a specific thing when you're focused in? Any other actions you're doing at the moment of crash?

Hello, to fix this issue with the G15 you'll need to update the bios to 3.12 or higher and freshly install your 6800M drivers after its updated. this is a common problem with the G15 and 6800M at the moment that affects other games as well.

make sure you use DDU or AMD cleanup utility when uninstalling drivers.

IF your unsure on how to do this ASUS support can help you through it, i hope this fixes your issue.

So I focus on a capitol ship with the mouse cursor pointing directly on it. I zoom in and out and rotate around the capitol ship and it crashes.  The crash happens both when I am following the ship in phase jumps and while in combat, but doesn't seem to happen jut following without enemies around.

Unfortunately I'm unable to reproduce this issue myself. Give Shotforce's recommendation a shot and let us know.

Can you link to the site addressing this?

OK yes it looks like it is my laptop GPU that is the issue.  Disregard.

Thanks!

Well... Asus told me to go F myself instead of helping me fix it, but at least I know what's happening.

Hello michaelkm8,

open "my Asus" thats installed on your laptop and click "customer support"

once your there, click on "live updates" and look for "bios update for asus easy flash utility version 404"

DO NOT DOWNLOAD 405, it has a sound bug but 404 is stable.

make sure before you start easy flash that your laptop is hooked to your power cord.

once flashed, reboot twice.

once you have rebooted for the second time, go to AMD's website and get the latest 6800M drivers.

install them using the fresh install button.

you should be good to go after this. ive worked on alot of G15's and 404 is really stable for gaming after flash, hit me here if you need more help.

I am not seeing a 405 bios ez flash when I open the MyAsus app or go to Asus's website and search for new bios for my laptop version.  I have 320 only available.  Can you point me to the direct download?

theres two different models of the Asus G15 the strix and the Zephyrus, can i have the model number?

if you clicked on latest in the live updates app, then that will be just fine to download and install.

once i have the model i can send you a link.

I have the Asus ROG Strix G15 advantage edition G513QY from best buy (apparently that matters).

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-g15-advantage-edition-15-6-fhd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-9-5900hx-16gb-memory-radeonrx-6800m-512gb-ssd/6466550.p?skuId=6466550

OK, lets start with the link. https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/rog-strix/2021-rog-strix-g15-advantage-edition-series/helpdesk_download/

once your there click on "drivers and tools" and scroll down until you find "Hotfix" and you should see one called "ASUS VBIOS Upgrade Utility for G513QY and G713QY"

Download and install that first.

After thats done, go back to the link and click on "Bios and Firmware" and download "BIOS for ASUS EZ Flash Utility ver 320"

use ASUS easy flash utility to install bios 320.

from there follow the steps i posted earlier after the new bios and hot fix are installed.

i should have asked you which one you had because they are two totally different laptops. sorry about that.

let me know.

I already had both of those installed,  but I did them both again.  Still don't have the 404 bios update option in myAsus.
