Selecting ships by Mouse Click N' Drag

What is the purpose of selecting bombers and fighters when I mouse click and drag to select ships?  This doesn't happen to the colony frigate (it doesn't get selected) when I do this.

When I am doing this to select all the ships in a gravity well I don't think the fighters and bombers should be included.

If micro'ing fighters and bombers is a thing maybe a button or some other method to select only them in a gravity well would be better.

Why shouldn't fighters and bombers be included? (Just trying to get at the root of the problem before considering solutions).

I zoom out to see the whole planet.  Click on the left "line" around a planet to select all of your moveable attack ships.  Click it again to switch to other types such as (colony frigate).

If you are trying to get all visible units hold down CTRL while left click a unit.   However, it will only select the ones visible in your view so widen enough to show the entire planet orbit.

you can click on the fighters and bombers if you want to in case you want them to attack a specific target, which I often do.

I guess that's a good question.  I Remember them docking and not being selectable after that in Sins 1.  I feel that they should prioritize either other fighters (if they are fighters) or capitol ships (if bombers).  If I put them in a fleet I feel that they are just like other ships and don't add much value.  I'd rather them have AI options (attack ship type xyz, provide support, etc...), but not be able to be part of a fleet with other ships.  Maybe as a feet of only fighters or bombers.  That's my thought.

That is the behavior they do now.  The fighters/bombers have been way improved.  The fighters seem to target other fighters then go after other ships if they run out of enemies.  Bombers go after larger ships.  And they switch targets smoothly (a vast improvement over Sins1) instead of just standing around thinking about whom to attack next.

Yes I do see that, but I would rather they have static command buttons then having them selected as part of my fleet of ships.  Or a separate way to select either ships or fighter/bombers.

Aside from my comment they are much better than in Sins 1 for sure.  Just my preferences here, nothing else.
