WindowFX not behaving on Win11 anymore.

Windows's 11 UI becomes laggy if WindowFX 6:12 is enabled. I can notice that everywhere but is more noticeable on how slow and sluggish tray icons highlight while hovering across them relatively fast.

It started to get increasingly severe since 6 months I believe. But Probably WindowFX needs an update since quite some time.

Is WindowsFX dead or you guys are still maintaining it?

Thank you :)

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know your Windows 11 full version number. Use Winver.exe to get it.

Thanks

Oh sorry for the late reply.

Since I stopped using WinFX a couple months ago, I have tried enabling it once in a while across different builds and the problem comes back.

I'm currently in the beta branch. 22H2 Build 23435.1000

I hope is still useful information because of that.

System is a 5900X / 64GB 3600 RAM / 4090

I have 1 x 4K monitor and 3 x 1080p old monitors since years (Muti monitor user since at least 10 years)

EDIT: I just tried again and made a video to show the issue.

Have a nice day. :)

It looks like you may be using some kind of taskbar hack to bring back the Windows 10 look.

Does the problem exist without that?

Yes I'm using StartAllBack

Yes I tried disabling it and use the normal taskbar to rule that out and the issue still persists.

Try again after uninstalling the StartAllBack.

Can You tell me what app You have running showing the performance in the taskbar? Is that XMeters?

That might be interfering as well.

Believe me. It is WindowFX.

I tried disabling every single app and measuring performance many times. I know is not easy to pinpoint but once I discovered it was WindowFX it was pretty clear.

The program on the tray area is HWInfo.

My system (realtime audio, media. game develop workstation) is super well maintained and tuned to keep a low usage as posible. And no, the CPU usage is not 100% when the issue is present. Happens even if the usage is very low (1% / 3%)

I think is something related to DWM and the fact WIndowFX hasn't been updated in a while. On the last few months I really thought WinFX wasn't the issue, I tried to blame it on everything else |-) , until I couldn't anymore and I'm certain now.

In my video it seems mild, but in practice I can see everything (mostly 2D dialogs, windows, even explorer.exe) slowing down over time and become more and more laggy.

That sounds like you have something leaking on your system causing it to slow down over time.

In your video you had something using the GPU quite a bit by the looks of it.

In my video, as mentioned, I'm using ZGE editor (video/image/CGI) in FL Studio to illustrate the system is responsive even under load as I try WindowFX on and off.
