Shortcuts to Recent Items on Start 11 are faulty

Lately some Start 11 Recent Items shortcuts using Windows 7 menu configuration don't go anywhere. I uninstalled program and tried shortcuts in Windows 11, and they work. I installed Start 11 (beta), and shortcuts still don't work. Clicking produces some flutter on the screens but doesn't open the selected recent item.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can not recreate your issue on my system. Recent item list still show the latest open documents for me.

Please try uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after, re download the latest Start11. Reinstall it, reboot again and retest. Report back.

Thanks

I did as instructed. For clarification, it is not the Return Items link itself that is the issue. Problem is that when I open Return Items and select document to open and left click on that document, the screen flashes but document doesn't open. I did try just now to right click on the document and use the Open command from the drop down menu. That worked, but left clicking directly on the recent document still doesn't work. Thanks.

Might need to clear recent item list, and see if the new list build up clear the issue.

I tried that. No luck. Sometimes documents on my Desktop, which is located MS OneDrive will open from the recent items menu but never from documents on my local drive. Also, whenever I click on a document in Recent Item, everything (except the wallpaper) on my desktop   disappears for a few seconds.

I have just uninstalled all of my Stardock products, and all of the issues with my desktop have been resolved.

I never had these problems using Windows 10, but I am not sure they began when I upgraded to Windows 11. I just know I have had them for a few weeks.

For now, I will leave your products uninstalled. For what it's worth in your troubleshooting, I am using a Dell XPS 8930. Good luck. I have no more time to spend on this.

Try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after, re download and install latest Start11 V1.34, reboot again. Retest it and report back.

Prior to reading your last message, here's what I did:

  • Uninstalled Start11 and Fences 4. Rebooted. Reinstalled Start11 1.34. Result: problems described persist.
  • Uninstalled Start11, rebooted, and installed Start11 1.23. Result: problem disappeared.
  • Installed update to Start11 and rebooted. Result: problems described did not recur.
  • Reinstalled Fences 4. Result: Problems with Start11 reappeared.
  • Uninstalled Start11 and Fences 4 and rebooted. Reinstalled Start11 1.34. Result: problems described persisted.
  • Uninstalled Start11 1.34 and rebooted. Reinstalled Start11 1.23. Result: Problems described did not recur.

My conclusion: something unhappy is going on between Fences 4 and Start11 1.34 and maybe with Start11 itself. At this point, I am happy to have my Windows 7 menu back, but I am reluctant to upgrade Start 11 1.34b or Fences 4. There seems to be some value in going through reinstallation of older version before installing the current version, but that advantage disappeared in subsequent attempts.

I hope this helps you figure something out. I am out of time to keep going through the uninstall/reinstall process. Let me know when you have the problems fixed. I would dearly love to reinstall latest versions of both Start11 and Fences, but I am not willing to risk it again. Thanks.

I can't reproduce your issue on my Windows 11 system. Fences V4.0.7.2 and Start11 V1.34 does work correctly together.

Would like to suggest to try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Thanks. Will do as soon I have a chance.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you still having the same issues. Welcome back, but after 2++ years? Please report back and please include your current version information.

  1. Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Start11 version installed.

Thank you.

What is the result of the purge and reinstall Steps I suggested back in 2022?

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. When I run the purge batch, my Bitdefender intercepts it, as if it's infected with a virus. I have tried twice. The initial screen says Unknown Publisher and file does not have a valid digital signature.

Batch files do not have digital signatures which is why it has no publisher or signature.
