Being able to distribute your own stand alone programs is pretty powerful. It's not meant for end users.

Way cheap. Go buy yourself a copy of VC++ and a Petzold book and start making yourself a desktop object. I think you'll find quick that what they are offering is way more convenient for 99.9% of people out there.

I honestly wondered when I saw that this was gonna be available "What is in it for Stardock?". Do the people who use the exe files have to have DesktopX? If not, won't this make DX functionality available to people who don't wanna buy it? Granted, it won't be whole themes, but still...

With DesktopX Pro, a shop like Pixtudio or other themer could start releasing their own PROGRAMS.

Cool weather object? No problem, now it can be a cool weather program on its own that you can send to anyone regardless of whether they have DesktopX or not.

Of course, like Baker said, the price has to be sufficiently high to offset the lost sales. $499 is the same price as the basic Flash license which is what we see DesktopX being a complementing product to.

We also have DesktopX Enterprise which is $15,000 which has more ActiveX support, a broader license, and can turn themes into programs too.

Whole themes into proggies?? Whoa...

So can the $499 one be bought by a company who wants to design a desktop with integration with multiple programs for about a few thousand students?

Theme to EXE is only in the Enterprise version.

But for example, you could make an object or group of objects into a program.
