I launch the game through the epic launcher and get the first splash screen to press any key to start. This screen comes complete with audio, but no amount of keyboard or mouse pressing does anything. No crashes evident in event viewer. When I force close the application, I do get the option to provide details regarding what I was doing (or rather not doing) at the time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I've tried launching in both online and offline mode. I have confirmed that I am logged into the correct epic account and that the game IS shown as purchased for said account. Below is a copy paste from one of the logs located in documents/sins2../logs

I should have mentioned trying this. But I did. Also tried with XMP both enabled and disabled. Hell I even tried with the onscreen keyboard and mouse bindings to replicate keyboard button presses. :(

From others who've hit this, it will just work at some point - but we have a potential fix we're testing that should hopefully avoid it in the future.

Looks like that update got me sorted out. Which is amusing, because I was just installing the game on an old laptop to see if it would have similar issues. when I noticed your update. :D

I still have this issue. I tried both versions, restarted my PC, nothing.

System:

Windows 11 Pro 64-bit 22H2 Build 22621.755

32GB DDR4 RAM

RTX 2080 Super

Update:

I uninstalled the "testing" version, installed the main, and I managed to get a bit further, but now I'm stuck on the welcome screen with the same issue. No button press or click anywhere gets me further.

Update 2:

After trying again more times, now it works.

Suffering from the same issue. One thing I noticed is that if I click fast enough, I get to the next screen (welcome message) before everything freezes and I need to kill it.

Did some investigation and discovered the problem is the EOSOverlayRender.

Epic does not provide a way to disable this, so if you have this problem, find and rename the EXEs below and the game will start working.

Interestingly enough, when I restored the file extension the game still started, so whatever the problem is, it seems to be something to do with the first-run/setup of whatever the Epic Social overlay does.

It never crashed, it just froze during initial loading and I used the Task Manager to kill the process. I did notice that a crash handler process was attached to the sins2 process, but it never did anything in response to my killing the process.

I'm also now unable to reproduce the problem. Once I had the game running properly the first time (by removing the overlay) it worked fine every time after that (even after I restored the overlay).

I barely use the Epic store, so this might have been the very first time the overlay was ever started on my machine & account. So it might not even be a problem with sins2 but something the overlay is doing (or not doing).

Once sins2 gets past that blockage just once, it seems to work forever after.

So the reproduction steps might be as annoying as:

  1. New Machine
  2. New Epic Account
  3. Add Sins2
  4. Start sins2
  5. Freeze

If I ever see the problem again, I can create a stack dump before killing the process, if that will help.
