Skinning Edge

I have identified an issue with skinning Edge in Windows 10 and 11.  I follow the FAQ for skinning Edge and the first time I open Edge it is skinned.  When I close Edge and later reopen it, it is no longer skinned.  The is because MS by default is allowing Edge to run in the background (after closing) to cache it and make it open faster the next time.

To fix this problem so Edge will always be skinned each time you open it do the following:

Go to Edge Settings -> System and Performance and make sure Startup Boost and Continue running background extensions are both turned off.  See picture.

This stops MS from running the Edge process in the background.

I wonder if that also limits Edge's ability to dial home with info...the cynic in me whispered, "No."

No, I think it is to bolster MS claims that Edge is faster.  As after you run it the first time it loads Edge from the background/cache instead of drive storage from then on.

Besides MS is not doing the same thing for Chrome or Firefox.:dur:

There is also a handy thumbs down button next to startup boost

Yes, it prob dials home via a different, non-stoppable method.

Hi all - I've been a long time lurker of Stardock and decided to upgrade my Windowblinds 10 version to Windowblinds 11. I am running Windows 11, and I've tried creating a desktop icon for Edge using the command to remove the titlebar as stated here:

https://forums.stardock.com/486023/windowblinds-support-faq#chromeskin

The shortcut I use is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-windows10-custom-titlebar

I rebooted after adding this to the target of my shortcut, and it still doesn't seem to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you enabled this in WindowBlinds config too?
