Start11 1.25 change log:

  • New - Wheel mouse over page switch area causes it to switch to another page. Also does it on page if no scrollbars there.
  • New - Show path on search results via tooltip (files / docs)
  • Added support for the forthcoming WindowBlinds 11
  • Fixed an issue where pin attempts from searches would fail
  • Fixed issue with $$$USERMENU$$$ error prompt - Win10 menu
  • Fix for X Mouse causing start menu to lose focus sometimes. Note this does not fix the native Windows 11 menu which experiences a very similar issue when the mouse is near the menu but not over it...
  • Fixed if pages not named then no shortcut text for folders showing in Win11 mode
  • Fixed issues with mouse clicks when over page bar as this causes problems with editing titles of groups
  • Adjusted icon spacing when in small taskbar mode
  • Tweak to for shutdown option installing updates correctly
  • Fixed issue with reboot always installing updates
  • Fixed issue with explorerpatcher running on Win11 dev builds causing a taskbar paint issue
  • Fixed issue with explorerpatcher installed but set to run Win11 taskbar (unsure why you would be doing this)
  • Fixed issue with running apps in dark mode when in always combine mode did not indicate they had mouseover / focus well at all - alpha is too light on border
  • Fixed issue with up arrow when opening Win10 menu not always moving from Shutdown button to bottom of quick access links list
  • Fixed issue with taskbar on top and tooltips overlapping taskbar when in autohide mode when not using Start11 taskbar feature

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Upgraded yesterday from 1.24 stable to 1.25 beta on Windows 10 ver. 21H2 Build 19044.1806 and all is good. I'm using the Windows 10 Style menu. It's really nice to have multiple pages on the Start Menu in Windows 10 and being able to use the mouse wheel to scroll thru pages is awesome.

Thanks for all your hard work!

I think it's very important to answer this question (why you would be doing this). Taskbar features are MUCH more important than Start features for many people. Especially because Microsoft killed a lot of the taskbar features in Windows 11, which reduced the productivity considerably for people who multitask a lot, but only "changed" the Start menu. I personally purchased the Start11 specifically for the taskbar features.

Start11 taskbar still doesn't support some features from the old Windows 10 taskbar, which ExplorerPatcher does (such as toolbars which are used by some apps, multiple desktops, full length color lines under the open taskbar items like in Windows 10 for better visibility, taskbar on the left and right sides, weather widget, etc). Until Start11 fixes or supports these features some of us literally have to keep the ExplorerPatcher installed as well, even though I'd obviously prefer to use only Start11.

I'll second Sergey's suggestion. Taskbar left and right would be much appreciated! |-)

As it says with Win11 taskbar mode set in ExplorerPatcher.  That means none of the above stuff enabled.  Very much an edge case.

I suppose there may be some die hard ribbon fans out there that still like Windows 11 taskbar.

I do know that the new command bar is hard for some people to get used to at first. Although  I would argue that it is superior to ribbons once you get used to it.

Even with 1.25 the small layout is still completely misaligned when there are two rows:

In the next upcoming beta, will it be possible to change Taskbar Height (in pixels?) The Windows 10 default is 40 while the Windows 11 taskbar is 48. (Instead of upgrading cause I like to switch back and forth between themes, currently trying to make my Windows 10 look like Windows 11)

+1 for this. In fact, there is a quite a big difference between small, medium and large taskbars. And since you created the whole new taskbar, you can also control their sizes? So, would it be possible to add 2 more taskbar sizes between the small and medium, and between the medium and large? The new size between the small and the medium could be 40 pixels, like in Windows 10?

They can be called very small, small, medium, large and very large, where the current small would be the new very small, and the current large would be the new very large. Or call them whatever - it would just be very good if we could have more taskbar sizes.

Every time I boot Windows 11 Pro (version 21H2 build 22000.778) on Surface Pro 7, to display Start11 Menu (Windows 10 style) by pressing Windows icon or Windows key on keyboard I have to "restart explorer."

Any suggestions to fix it?

I'd second most of the above, but also for me the convenience of being able to have a centred start button when using my widescreen monitor, it's along way to scroll on  a 49" screen when there's no need to do so. So for the minute, it's Start 11 for the start menu and ExplorerPatcher for the taskbar. On that topic, any plans at all to bring back the option for a centred start button?

+1 for a centered Start button with taskbar ungrouping.  It's the only reason I use StartAllBack instead.

Startallback also stops the truncated action menu when taskbar is at the top of the screen I am running both Start11 and startallback so that I can achieve this:

It is not recommended to use both those products at the same time as we have had reports of them conflicting as they both have similar features.

Start11 already moves that to the top of the screen

Yes but with only start11 this happens:

Yes but with only start11 this happens:

Reduced 38%
Original 752 x 805

Then something is conflicting with Start11 as that issue (which is an OS bug) is something Start 11 has a fix for.

Well ever since I installed start11 on my windows 11 laptop it has been like this I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times it has always been like this.

We get it but Explorer Patcher is the 1st thing we are going to have to ask that you uninstall for any reported issues.  We have literally told all staff to ask if it's installed almost immediately as it has caused numerous issues that were only found far down the line of support wasting precious time in the process.

Do you have Explorer Patcher installed and if you uninstall it, does it then work?

If not, if you do a clean boot, does it still happen?

There are soo many third party taskbar / start menu / explorer mods out there that will make changes to your registry when you install them and they do not necessarily put your registry back the way it was when you uninstall them. It sounds like you have two conflicting registry commands that results in the truncated menu. It is either going to come down to a game of search and fix or a Windows 11 clean install. Personally, I like clean installs and try to do them at least once per year anyways to keep my pc running at its best
