Blank Descriptions in Workshop Submissions.

Feels like EFF-Commander is playing us for fools on not being able to write in English, he has a new submission with English clearly written in and an older one with a bit of Korean written in. I am now very tempted to remove his submissions that have blank description fields since he proven he can add English and write in his own native language in the description field.

Navinor and I have told him he can use his own native language but yet doesn't and feels like he is using not speaking English as an excuse, but clearly has used English and his own language to write in his ship design descriptions on his workshop submissions. He has several submission where he has filled out a description and several that are blank.

I need guidance this matter because we removing players submissions for this and not others. This isn't fair to the players who's submission we are removing yet some players are receiving some favoritism they shouldn't be getting at all. This is what I've been trying to to explain on my public post. I am now taking this privately and will only discuss moderation matters here in this forums.

I've provided screenshots to understand my concern.

Please advise?

I have used my best judgement and have removed EFF-Commanders submissions with blank descriptions and sent him this message translated to Korean.

Missing description

We can no longer leave your submissions up while removing others for same reason. You recently proven you can write both English and Korean in the description field. We encourage you to continue doing that but we must be fair to everyone and remove your submissions with blank descriptions. Thank you.

Out of fairness, I believe this was the right decision as he has proven he can in fact fill in the description field. I apologize for not waiting on counsel but other players seeing it have started doing the same thing and if left alone just creates a big mess.

I don't think he is actively playing us for a fool. The way his english submissions are written sounds like google translator to me. That is one of the reasons he was asking for a copy paste function. I think he understands english on a  very basic level. And i think he basically copies the google translated english letters one by one by looking at the keyboard and writing them into the box. It is a tedious process, so at some point i can imagine he stopped caring for some of his prior designs.

I remember myself learning english. For a native english speaker it can seem that people are just ignoring rules. But it is often more a case of "lost in translation". Best example is Ron's message because of the meeting. Airmaster pointed out to me, he had to organize the meeting first and because of this it wouldn't be on monday. But the first time i was reading it, i did it basically " with "german wording" in my head. And then it sounded like the meeting would be on monday.

There are some cultures out there which outright refuse to speak english. But in the end we have to play by the rules as moderators. And of course you can not play into every cultural custom, otherwise it would be complete chaos. I am trying to moderate in way right now to keep the "broader picture" in mind. I don't want to hurt Stardock as a company or kill the fun of every designer out there.

In case of EFF Commander i think we need clear guidlines here. Because at first he is told he can act the way he is doing right now, but in the next moment he is getting moderator warnings. (I will refrain from writing him messages right now, because you have written him one allready Airmaster.)

But you are right Airmaster in terms of showing favouritism. It is not a thing a moderator should do. In the end we just need a clear guidline how to act right now when we have people who can not speak english.

Maybe we can tell people who are not very good in english to write it at least in their own language.

(Yeah you are right airmaster, EFF was not doing that in some of his designs. But it think it has to do more with the fact of switching the keyboard between korean and english letters. )

In the long run a pop up message in the game in different languages for the workshop would be a great idea. It could show some guidelines for the workshop.

As I said before it's a rock and a hard place. I want to be fair to everyone. I feel the rules must apply to players, moderators and even the dev  We can't enforce the rules on some and not others because it sets a bad example. Everyone should be held to the same standards otherwise GC4 workshop becomes the same trash heap the GC3 Workshop Most Recent section became.

Players have a habit of seeing what some players are getting away with and use it to get away doing the same thing they're not held to the same standards others are. We cannot show favoritism despite the language issues because its unfair to both English speaking and non-English speaking players.

My point is this it's not fair to everyone we remove submissions with blank descriptions and leave others up. The standard need to apply to everyone including ourselves. Until there's something we can do about it we still need to set a good example for all players so that they see us being fair to everyone.

Generally speaking, I want removing content to be a last resort.  If we can coax folks into updating their descriptions that'd be far better.  I'm working on getting that field set as required as well.  Please -- light touch on this kind of thing, ok?

Yeah, i think an option for writing to the uploader of the ship without deleting the ship would be great. (Basically like the "delete" moderation tool but just as a text message. Right now we have only the option to delete the ship and the civ immediately.)
