Is there a way to zoom out at the beginning of the game to see my starting position. I really hate having to spend an hour to figure out my sector is the nexus of all alien hub with 4 to 6 pathways. Why limit this? We know our position in the Galaxy and can barely fly in space IRL.
At this time you can see the sector you are currently located, but not other sectors you are connected to. Some additional exploration is required before you discover those. I will pass the suggestion on to the team.
I think it makes sense the way it is now: you must explore to discover the subspace gates that are connected to your sector. Not only does it make sense relative to how you discover other objects in space, but it also adds value -- and player choice -- to constructing/buying probes to explore (or not doing that).
I agree about the subspace gates. Sure you should explore to find them. But I should still be able to zoom out and see where I am in the galaxy. If I am on the edge, probably have less gates than being in the middle. Right now, in 2022, humans know our relative place in the galaxy why wouldnt an advance civilization?
