Captured Core World Does Not Have Capital City

I have mentioned this in the past, but I want to bring it up again since it is still in 0.9.  Occasionally, when I capture a Core World, the world does not have a capital city and it does not have a capital city improvement available to drag and drop onto a cell.  Below is a screen snapshot of an example of this.  If this is a bug, please fix it.  If it is intentional, what is your logic for doing this?

this might be due to the building being destroyed in the invasion.

That would be consistent. I suppose this is a consequence of the constraint that unique buildings can only be built once on a world. You can't, for example, raze your capital and rebuild it somewhere else because a better location opened up. I can't say I hate this mechanic. Actions do have consequences.

My own frustration is that you can't even look at the world before deciding whether to put a governor there or not. It is common for me to have two reasonable choices but one has far better terrain for what I want it to do. In this case I might want to leave this one as a colony because it is so unspectacular and I can't even build a capital.

Interesting.  How do you know if any buildings were destroyed during an invasion and, if one or more were, which ones were they?  If a building was destroyed, was the underlying cell also destroyed?  It appears that the game might need to provide more information to the player about the results of an invasion.

Every time I've invaded a core world and placed a gov in charge the capital is missing.  I don't buy the "destroyed in the invasion suggestion".  Its not a mentioned mechanic and its always the capital, this seems like a bug to me.

Thanks so much for pointing this out, everyone! I will pass this along to the team so that they can take a look. If there's anything to report on it, I'll let you all know.

Hi Paul, any chance you happen to have a save file we can take a look at? We fixed an issue like this a while back, but it shouldn't be happening anymore, so we'd like to hunt down the conditions this is happening.

The link below is to a save from the game that I am currently playing. I do not have one from right before I capture a world with no capital, but as I continue to play, I will try to get one.  It may be important to note that I have unlocked the "Poaching" ideology which lets me keep the current governor as I capture worlds (except for home worlds).  The 2 worlds that do not have a capital city and no option to create one are:

  • Van Maanen III
  • Andersona III

Hopefully, this will help you find the issue.
